When I was a small child in New York in the early 1950s, I had nightmares about running from Nazis. They never caught me. My father had been part of the armies that defeated the Nazis a few years before I was born. Now I see American Nazis grabbing Palestinian-associated activists and disappearing them. I'm terrified. Which will not stop me from writing those postcards and calling my reps and showing up to whatever is happening in my small city on April 19, although it does cut into my ability to sleep at night.
Those Palestinian activists are my people even when they say things I don't like, whether or not they feel that about me. The regime ambushing them falsely claiming to oppose antisemitism, is the same regime that is silent after a Jewish governor's home was fire-bombed during the night of a Jewish holiday. It is the same regime that has already sent legal residents of this country to a death camp in another country just to show they can.
And yet - look at the people fighting back. The giant rallies, the large and small acts of courage and compassion every day.
Thank you Ariella. I did not think it was a bad day. I think Harvard is very good news. And I think the 9-0 Supreme Court ruling last week, despite everyone's despair, and despite what is so obviously lawless, was a real marker
I agree! Things are happening so fast, that I don’t think most people understand the magnitude of what’s coming!!
If there’s a positive way to say that we are now a shit County, as Trump would say about the others, then we need an emergency slogan to say Hello!! We’re in deep …. What ever expression you care to use!! No tourism coming to the U.S., as every Country is down by 15- 28% in March. It would be amazing, if everyone in the U.S., knew we aren’t going to be able to sell our goods to other Countries! They are all finding other suppliers, and likely won’t come back! A win for our Country would be great if Congress could be like the old days, and work
across the isle. It would be awesome if we had auditors, looking for ways to cut the fat, rather than hackers downloading, and cutting everything! Half of the Country loves President Trump! It would be great if everyone in the Country could hear real news! The truth! A win, if every citizen could read, or listen to Substack! So push it in every app, friends, family, evan if they don’t like you anymore! I’ve been a republican since I could walk beside my Mother, signing up people to vote! Things change when it affects you personally as it did to me! I’m afraid it’s going to be too late, when people realize, this will affect us all! My family thought Trump would be best to lower the prices! They are still hanging on to another time! I’d love to believe that everything is going to be fine, but we have no time!! Let’s all be winners, and do something each day to be positive, to help people understand their choices, don’t affect just them, it will affect us all!
I've been a lurker both on substack, and on the voteDem subreddit (where i found you from!) for quite some time, and i just want to say thank you for keeping this series going. Me and many others appreciate it tremendously. Its been a welcome break from the constant doomerism of content online. So thank you! It helps more than you could possibly know.
Ariella, thank you for posting the wins, big and small, everyday. There is so much content on Substack that it can be overwhelming. But, I’m now in the habit of reading your post as I head to sleep. It does give me some hope, so thanks for that.
A little suprised that Harvards refusal to comply with Trump wasn't on here tonight. Harvard refusing to bend the knee is such a massive win that hopefully will spread like wildfire to other colleges.
I try to chose three wins that people don’t know about, if I have the time to spend finding them. Everyone has been talking about harvard all day, so I wanted to make sure you knew about others as well!
