Breathe.
Just breathe.
Today was bad, really bad, but hope is an action, and if we don’t put in effort to hope we lose it, and they’re just waiting for us to stop putting in the effort and give up and that’s when they win.
As long as we hope, as long as we fight, they can’t win.
And every day we win fights and we start fights and some of them are large, and some of them are small, but they ALL matter.
The Conrad Prebys Foundation exists to help support San Diego in progressing forward. They do this through investments in healthcare and the arts and, in this case, journalism.
Prebys is fighting back with several grants adding up to $2m for the local papers that are committed to telling the truth. Times of San Diego, inewsource, KPBS, and Voice of San Diego will each be getting $300k over two years. While CalMatters will be getting $800k.
CEO Grand Oliphant said:This is about more than news — this is about civil discourse. When people have access to trustworthy information, they participate more fully in civic life, make better decisions, and feel more connected to each other and their community. These organizations make that possible.
We save our country by keeping local journalism alive. By continuing to have journalists who aren’t willing to back down for anything, and that can only happen with help from Foundations like Conrad Prebys.
Arkansas Senate is fighting back. 22 of them, and there are only 6 Dems. They just passed a bill, HB1965, which would give grants to people and organizations finding solutions to food deserts and food insecurity.
This would be a win even if the country wasn’t the piece of shit it currently is, but with DT refusing to continue helping food pantries and the like, this is more important now than ever.
A group of small business owners are fighting back by suing the Admin over taking the power to impliment tariffs from Congress. It’s a reminder of the power of one. We all have power to do something right now, every single one of us.
This Court should declare the President’s unprecedented power grab illegal, enjoin the operation of the executive actions that purport to impose these tariffs under the IEEPA, and reaffirm this country’s core founding principle: there shall be no taxation without representation.
I know it’s hard today. I get it. God, I get it, but we have to keep having hope and keep fighting anyway. That’s the only way we win. So I hope this helps you keep fighting.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
A little suprised that Harvards refusal to comply with Trump wasn't on here tonight. Harvard refusing to bend the knee is such a massive win that hopefully will spread like wildfire to other colleges.
I've been a lurker both on substack, and on the voteDem subreddit (where i found you from!) for quite some time, and i just want to say thank you for keeping this series going. Me and many others appreciate it tremendously. Its been a welcome break from the constant doomerism of content online. So thank you! It helps more than you could possibly know.
