It’s always fun finding wins on the day they happened, and today that’s the case for two of them!
Today - SCOTUS refused to hear the case of the Massachusetts seventh grader who refused to remove his transphobic shirt in 2023. this means the lower court ruling supporting the school in its decision, not to allow the shir,t stands. Naturally, Alito and Thomas of course dissented.
Today - NPR, Colorado Public Radio, Aspen Public Radio and KSUT Four Corners Public Radio sued DT over the executive order ending funding for NPR.
Executive Order that violates the expressed will of Congress and the First
Amendment’s bedrock guarantees of freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and freedom of association, and also threatens the existence of a public radio system that millions of Americans across the country rely on for vital news and information.Took you a while, but welcome to the resistance NPR! Ironically, the best reporting on this story is from Oregon Public Radio.
Wed May 21 - In a 5–2 vote the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, an elected position, rejected the nomination of two GOP election deniers to the County Board of Elections.
This is why voting in every single election no matter how small is so important. Be honest, have you voted in every County Board of Commissioners race in the past?
If you’re interested, you can watch the full board meeting below (but it is 7 hours so you might want to watch it in spurts.)
And there you have it, three of today’s wins! I hope they were inspiring and made you feel a little more actionable!
Our votes and our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
Voting for every level is so very important! As you have said multiple times Arielle. It’s one of the reasons I love how VA does their ballots. Local, state, and federal can and do get put together on Election Day (which is usually always November for everything) so no special date or needing to take time off to vote again.
All these wins are wonderful to see! Especially the NPR and the SC refusing to vote.
Dan Rather just summed up the dire picture of our current state,
“ First, Trump has a clear agenda. It is about garnering power. And with the absolute power granted to him by a pliant Supreme Court and a subservient Congress, he is, in his mind anyway, King of America. But power alone is not the endgame. He is using his power to amass enormous personal wealth and enact revenge.”

Some of us can see this, yet just under 50% still approve of his reign, It is terrifying,
I really appreciate your post pointing out wins from those fighting this tyranny. Thank you.
Tyranny can never be appeased, It never works,
Tyranny only wins when we submit,
Solidarity is how we win,
