None of these wins are from today, but I learned about them today, and sometimes that’s what counts. Makes you wonder how many wins are happening today that we won’t hear about till later in the week.
You might have already heard about two of them, even though I didn’t, but I’m sure, unless you’re in Connecticut, you didn’t hear about the third.
Fri 4/23 - Four Paul Weiss litigators, one of the first firms that bowed down to DT, have left and are starting their own. This is the second new firm out of those that bowed down. The lawyers leaving are:
Karen Dunn, who has helped Dems prepare for all VP and Presidential debates since 2008
Jeannie Rhee, best known for representing Hillary Clinton in “but her emails”
Jessica Phillips, who was involved in the case against the Charlottesville Nazi march
And William Isaacson who won an antitrust suit against the NCAA for players and the use of their likeness.
These are heavy heavy hitters and this new firms will be a very big deal, and make Paul Weiss a less big deal in the process.
Wed 5/21 - Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont announced the second round of medical debt elimination in partnership with Undue Medical Debt. This batch includes over 100k residents who will either partially or completely have their debt erased. Letters started going out last week.
In the press release, Lamont said:
Over the next few days, more than 100,000 Connecticut residents who have been struggling to pay their medical bills will feel relief when they receive letters in the mail notifying them that their debt has been erased. I am hopeful that additional medical partners will soon sign onto this program to help more Connecticut families through further rounds of this initiative.
Yay Connecticut!
Mon 5/19 - Mohsen Mahdawi graduated from Columbia University! He spoke with AP about what he was feeling:
There are still so many people still in forced confinement and many more being abducted every single day, but this story gives me hope that they will get out. We are fighting right now, but we won’t be fighting this forever.
So I hope these wins were inspiring, and I hope you remember
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
About the first story, where good Attorneys have left firms that capitulated...they understand that reputation is everything. In the law, it takes a literal decade to even have a reputation and credibility.
