Have you checked out our amazing Dems fighting for our safety in the Rules Committee since 1 am this morning? Now that gives me strength!
And here are some more wins!
The Australian Conservative Party did so poorly in the recent election that yesterday they split into two parties: The National Party and the Liberal Party. Today, after one single day as two parties, there are now talks that they need to reunite because splitting up will lose them even more elections in the future. It’s a whole entire mess and I doubt it will be fixed anytime soon, even if they do reunite.
Some museums have begun receiving some federal funding again. Now, we know how fragile this may be, but for now, it’s a win. And one of those museums is the Japanese American National Museum in LA which reaffirmed its support of DEI. The grant was for a project that has already been completed on artist Henry Sugimoto. Museum President Ann Burroughs told Hyperallergic:
This does not change the fact that grant programs that fund education, preservation, and other programs have been completely eliminated, devastating humanities and arts programs in countless communities, nor the ongoing efforts to suppress voices labeled as DEI in arts and education
It’s still not great, as Burroughs says, but the big win, as is typically the big win in these situations, backlash works. They want to do things in the shadows, and the louder we are the less that can happen.
Speaking of backlash, Target is feeling the heat. Their CEO, Brian Cornell held a call with reporters and the bottom line was their Q1 sales numbers suck. He blames DT’s Temper Tariffs and the boycott. So, if you’re boycotting Target, congrats, they’re very much feeling the heat. Not sure they’re gonna do anything about that, but, well they’re not going to get better numbers unless they do. This is how Cornell thinks they can fix their crap numbers:
We’ve got to be growing [market] share in 60, 70, 80% of those categories. That’s our focus over the balance of the year, and we’re going to do that by making sure we provide a great shopping environment.
Well, he certainly doesn’t seem to get it yet, but maybe he’ll get it soon, or not. Maybe Target will just have a target on it’s back till it goes bankrupt, who knows.
Hope these wins made your day a little brighter!
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
On the third item...I'm reminded of the Montgomery Bus Boycott. It got so bad that the company cried uncle and decided it wasn't worth losing money. If Target gets hit that bad they'll cry uncle and be forced to change their tune, and oust their CEO.
I refuse to shop at Target while they don't have DEI policy. The loss is theirs.
