Every day I think I’m going to finish my work early, and every day I fail spectacularly. It’s not yet 9pm, so I guess that’s a win.
May 1: Michigan’s version of the SAVE Act died in the House when the Republican-controlled body failed to get the 2/3 needed to pass a constitutional amendment. They did say they are going to stop at nothing to get it on the 2026 ballot, but they try to trick people into voting for terrible measures using lies all over the country, so I think we’re up to the challenge (if they even succeed, that is)
Liz Oyer, the pardon attorney who was fired for refusing to give Mel Gibson his gun license back, is now on TikTok! She’s starting with posts about DT’s current pardons and how much they cost, and it even got the attention of WaPo yesterday.
This is also a personal win. Do you remember when I said I had something really special that I did that I couldn’t share? I was lucky enough to join a small group of influencers to chat with Liz about TikTok and what content would be best for her. It was definitely one of the more surreal experiences I’ve had, and I’m so glad I get to share it. So if you have TikTok or IG, make sure to follow her, I promise you, everything coming down the pipeline is gonna be amazing!
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was at a Judicial conference in Puerto Rico. Normally SCOTUS Justices are supposed to not get involved in politics, but things aren’t normal. We’ve already had a statement from Justice Roberts and remarks from Justice Sotomayor, and now Justice Brown Jackson has spoken up as well. Among other things, she said:
The attacks are not random. They seem designed to intimidate those of us who serve in this critical capacity, The threats and harassment are attacks on our democracy, on our system of government. And they ultimately risk undermining our Constitution and the rule of law.
We need as many Judges and Justices speaking out as possible.
This is such a small fragment of the amount of wins I saw today, so I certainly hope you saw many many more as well.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
Just watched all the TikTok videos posted so far by Liz Oyer. She is great! But good grief. 🤢
