Three Wins Today May 11, 2025
Happy Mother’s Day to all who celebrate, whether you are a mother or a mother figure, a child with a mother still in your life or a motherless child, we all approach this day differently and that’s okay. I hope these three wins help make your not great day better or give you even more joy on an already joyful day.
My friend, Lehigh County Controller Mark Pinsley actually tagged me in his TikTok post about this, I wouldn’t have seen it otherwise, which is a little amusing considering the Pensions and Investments article says they couldn’t reach him for comment.
Anyway, on May 7, the county decided that at least until the next pension board meeting, they will not purchase new Tesla stocks for the Employee Retirement Fund. Both because fuck EM, and, it’s just a bad investment at this point. Both huge wins. And this is all because Controller Pinsley pushed for it. In his statement he said:
I introduced this motion out of concern for CEO Elon Musk’s political public profile and its adverse impact on Tesla’s brand and Tesla’s market performance. With Tesla's earnings down 71% year-over-year and auto revenues falling 20%, our $500 million pension board prioritizes fiduciary responsibility. I believe this decision protects our retirees and may serve as a precedent for other institutional investors.
They are the first public pension fund to do so, but I suspect they won’t be the last.
KeepThemHonestNow is a pretty new nonprofit that has been putting up billboards against the GOP around the Miami area. On Friday May 9, they installed a new billboard just west of Miami Int Airport, so everyone coming to the city will see it.
Chris Willis, spokesperson and vice President of the nonprofit said
Donald Trump, who repeatedly promised to be a Day 1 dictator, proves with every passing day and action that he truly is a wannabe dictator. Our Members of Congress have a duty to use the checks and balances granted to them by our Constitution, to ensure that we will not ever allow in the USA, a wannabe dictator to take control of our Democracy, not even for one day.
This is their first billboard that isn’t digital which likely means it will stay up long term. You can see it for yourself in this Thread.
Kerry Kennedy is in Bangladesh. They just overthrew their autocratic government back in August so she’s there to find out more about how they did it and what steps they’re taking to make sure it can’t happen again.
She JUST returned from El Salvador, where she learned as much as she could about CECOT and all other prisons and those suffering there. She is now off to help and support a whole different part of the world. If you want to keep up with her videos, for now, I only see them on IG and Threads, but maybe if enough people make noise she’ll post them on Blue Sky and YouTube too.
For all the bad energy her brother is putting on the Kennedy name, she’s reminding us every single day of the true power and goodness of her family.
