We have some pretty big wins today, and one even made me cry, so, let’s get started!
Four days ago Obama appointed Judge, Beryl Howell ruled that National Labor Relations Board member must be reinstated. Today, she was. Forbes filmed the entire thing, and I cried. I recommend getting tissues, cause you might cry too.
There’s some real hope in seeing her actually return. They obeyed this ruling, and that means the judicial branch still has significant power.
Another Obama Appointee, Judge Jessee Furman has blocked Mahmoud Khalil from being deported. And a final decision can’t be made till after his hearing.
I do not want to hear from a single person that he deserves it or whatever else I expect to see in my comment section. He is a legal resident of this country. He is a green card holder. This directly violates the First Amendment regardless of whether you like that speech or not. This is a win, full stop.
Every rep’s staff, even one in hiding, have to hold office hours. Offices hours are typically for issues with things like passports or social security (ironic, no?). Rep Kevin Kiley’s (CA-03) did their best to publicize today’s office hours as little as possible. It didn’t matter though, hundreds of constituents showed up anyway.
Just a reminder that empty-chair town halls aren’t the only option. Your rep might be hiding, but their staff can’t
I hope these wins help make your day just a bit better, and please, don’t hesitate to share more wins below!
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
Mahmoud Khalil is a test case for disappearing people who say things the current govt doesn’t like. I probably disagree with him on nearly everything he says. That doesn’t change his right to say it. Let’s raise our voices now to defend him, if only to protect ourselves from the same treatment. Call your electeds.
Keep-em coming Ariella...
