There were a lot of wins today and a lot of losses, but remember, no matter how many losses we have, it’s important to always take some time to focus on the wins. It’s a lot harder to fight against the losses if we don’t.
So here are three of them!
Thurs June 5 - Biden appointee, Judge Deborah Boardman has ruled that DT must restore Americorps in the states and territories that filed a lawsuit against his order to dismantle it. Those include: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, DC and Wisconsin. This is why it’s so important to urge your AG to sign on to these lawsuits, and why many of these wins only affect Dem-controlled states. Judge Boardman began the ruling stating:
…defendants likely violated the Administrative Procedure Act by failing to engage in notice-and-comment rulemaking before making significant changes to service delivery, that the plaintiffs will be irreparably harmed if this injunction does not issue, and that the balance of the equities and the public interest favor…
Thurs June 5 - NYC Comptroller Brad Lander, one of the Dem candidates for mayor, joined the court watchers outside an immigration court to help protect immigrants walking to and from their court hearings from being abducted by ICE.
Reminder, if you live in NYC, you can rank him as 1 or 2 on your ballot, but, whatever you do, don’t rank Cuomo.
Today - In Los Angeles, the LAX metro stop has finally opened. Getting to and from LAX has always been a pain, but even more so if you don’t know anyone in the area. Now LAX is finally going to be joining the other major airports in having reliable public transit. Metro Board Chair Janice Hahn celebrated the new stop.
This is a huge win for the future of transit in LA.
And those are the wins I have for you today! Remember, tomorrow is my day off, so please start looking for wins now so you have some to share tomorrow!
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
The LAX metro station opening is HUGE for the Olympics, I’m so glad they got it up and running this year. Lifelong transit nerd and I completely missed that news, thanks for posting!
This was from a couple days ago, but I just ran across it on Facebook today and it feels like a good example of Dems Doing the Work. 🤷🏻♀️💜
