Please take a deep breath.
Regardless of whether you are scared or anxious because of the circular firing squad or what Republicans are doing your fear is valid. It’s okay to be scared, as long as after you take a beat you can come back and fight even harder. and hopefully these posts help you in fighting from a place of hope and courage rather than fear and anxiety.
Here are three of today’s wins!
Fri May 30 - Biden Appointee, Judge María Antongiorgi-Jordán ruled that Puerto Rican birth certificates must allow an “X” gender marker. In her Opinion, Judge Antongiorgi-Jordán wrote:
The Court thus finds that there is no rational basis to deny Plaintiffs’ request. The current Birth Certificate Policy of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico arbitrarily distinguishes between binary and nonbinary individuals and subjects nonbinary individuals to disfavored treatment, without any justification for doing so. In such cases, it is the duty of the federal courts to intervene, to guarantee the equal protection of all persons under the law.
What a cool thing to happen just days before the start of PRIDE month!
Sat May 31 - In March, Mike Speedy, the Indiana Secretary of Business Affairs shut down the COVID-era rental assistance program, that isn’t expiring till September because, as far as anyone can tell, he felt like it. Last week, Marion Superior Court 11 Judge, Richard Blaiklock ordered the program to be reopened until the money actually runs out. He was not at all amused by Speedy having no excuse for having shut it down in the first place:
There was no consideration or reasonable basis for the Order—no findings, no analysis, no documented assessment to justify shutting down a federally funded housing stability program months before it was set to run out of federal money.
Today - Carol Mayorga was released by ICE. She was abducted in late April, and that’s when her 95% DT voting town realized that the crackdown on immigration would affect their lives and this got her story national attention.
She could still be deported by 2027 for being part of the asylum program that the government insists she wasn’t eligible for, but, this gives her time to fight her case and hopefully win.
Sadly, St Louis Public Radio seems to be the only source with this update, which they have fully vetted. Hopefully, that changes as more people get wind of her release.
