Finding wins today was HARD. Not because they aren’t there, but because most people only share the bad news. And for the few wins I did find, I couldn’t really find sources that I felt comfortable sharing. It’s so unprofessional for any news outlet to not give the source material anywhere in their article, but that’s where we are now.
All this to say, it takes all of us. I can’t find wins on my own, I mean, I started at 6:30pm, and it’s now 8:30 and I’m just starting to write this. When you see a win, no matter how small, tag me! I might not use it, but it will help so much, and might even send more wins your way. Also, comment with any indie or local publication in your area that you think I should be following, cause the influencers I follow are not helping with this endeavor at all.
On that note, I did finally find three wins, and here they are:
Wed June 11 - Cooling Portland, in Oregon, began giving out free air conditioners to those who need it in 2021. After far exceeding their first goal of 15k in the first 5 years, they just announced the intend to install 10k more in the next 18 months. Earth Advantage is one of the partners helping implement Cooling Portland. In a statement, their senior climate justice program manager Pilar Calderin said:
Meeting the original goal early is a testament to the strength of the systems we’ve built with our distribution partners. But it also shows the depth of need in our community. With continued support, we’re committed to reaching the thousands more Portlanders who still need help to stay healthy during extreme heat.
Just think about it, by 2027, 25k people will have air conitioners because of this program.
Wed June 25 - The American Academy of Pediatrics has announced they will be putting out their own vaccine recommendations since the ones coming from the CDC and their partners can no longer be trusted.
Today - Rhode Island Governor, Dan McKee has signed a ban on the selling of assault-style rifles into law.
So those are the wins I found, but I can’t overstate it, I PROMISE there are more, they’re just not being shared widely enough. Everything is not lost, but it’s really easy to think it is when all you see is bad news.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
Some might consider this a win...
Massachusetts - Newton Public Schools will not allow unvaccinated students to attend classes this fall, unless they have an approved exemption.
Superintendent Anna Nolin confirmed that all students must be fully vaccinated to remain enrolled in the district.

Harvard and the University of Toronto have made a plan that international graduate can finish their studies at uni Toronto if the US restricts visas.
It’s sad they have to do this but it is great that they now have a plan to keep them safe and continuing their degrees.
