Today was another stressful day, I think I can safely say that everyone who reads my posts felt that. And it might feel like wins aren’t worth it, but I promise, they are. They are so worth it. Because the only way we will successfully win is by fighting back, and we have to be hopeful, and believe things can get better to do so. So here are three things that make be believe it will get better.
Fri June 13 - A three judge panel at the California State Bar has upheld a recommendation made in March 2024, that John Eastman should be disbarred.
They said:
Eastman’s considerable indifference weighs heavily in our disbarment recommendation as we are concerned about future misconduct. In sum, Eastman’s misconduct from November 2020 to the present as reflected in the record warrants a recommendation of disbarment.
We recommend that John Charles Eastman, State Bar Number 193726, be disbarred from the practice of law in California and that Eastman’s name be stricken from the roll of attorneys.
Will every lawyer DT has ever worked with be disbarred? No, probably not, but I don’t think Eastman will be the last.
He hasn’t been officially disbarred yet, it will go to the California Supreme Court first, and then Eastman will probably try to escelate it, but it’s another step in the right direction.
Mon June 16 - The Florida Legislature approved the budget and it did not include cuts to AP and other college placement programs, as was the plan. It will be funded using grants rather than the previous funding model, but it will be funded. Another example of pushback working.
Thurs June 19 - Randy Manner, a former Vice Chief of the National Guard Bureau wrote an op-ed in Fox News against DT sending the national guard to harm and scare Americans. He said:
These actions – as seen through my previous role as the No. 2 person in the National Guard Bureau – worry me greatly. I am concerned that the administration is transitioning the military’s role from national defense to law enforcement. From protection to intimidation. This transition is a dramatic misuse of power and could lead to disastrous legal, operational and ethical outcomes.
Who knows, maybe there are some people reading Fox News that just needed this put in front of them to realize how bad things are. Probably not die hard MAGA, but maybe someone who voted for DT because they wanted lower costs.
So those are three of today’s wins. I hope they made your day a little better.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
Thank you for doing this. My go to read before bed so I can actually sleep🙂
Yay Ariella! "Because the only way we will successfully win is by fighting back, and we have to be hopeful, and believe things can get better to do so. " -- You are in agreement with E. Jean Carroll, to whom DJT currently owes $100M. She gave a great interview this weekend to Andy Borowitz (also on Substack) about her new book "Not My Type" and said exactly this. Also, she quoted someone (I've already forgotten who - but there are lots of such quotes) that "hope is action" and we have to hope.
