There were a lot of massive wins today, but as always, I wanna make sure you hear about more than 3, so here are two election wins that probably didn’t cross your radar and one win that Move On phonebankers definitely get credit for.
Today - In Douglas Colorado, there was an election for “Home Rule Charter.” It lost overwhelmingly. If it had passed, things like elections would be controlled by the county and they would be exempt from following certain state laws. Considering Colorado is a blue-led state, this would be very bad. The vote was No: 71% and Yes: 28%. Here’s a bit more info from before the vote was counted:
Today - Billie Butler won the election for New Hampshire House Strafford County District 12 . She is the second trans woman and fourth trans member in the State House. And New Hampshire isn’t nearly as blue as most assume, the state House and Senate are both under Republican control.
Today - MoveOn.org has been hosting phone banks targeting those in Republican districts to patch them through to their Rep. 16 of those targeted Republicans just wrote a letter to Thune and Johnson against the Medicaid cuts. They said:
Protecting Medicaid is essential for the vulnerable constituents we were elected to represent. Therefore, we cannot support a final bill that threatens access to coverage or jeopardizes the stability of our hospitals and providers.
Don’t misunderstand, I’m not even giving them a pat on the back. The win is going solely to the phone banks. My mom was on yesterday’s “145K calls 600 patch thru in phone bank today.” That’s INCREDIBLE! This is our power! And these phonebanks are happening every day until July 2, so if you have time, sign on!
I feel a lot of hope from today’s wins, I don’t know about you.
Huge reminder that our votes and our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
