So I did a bit of an experiment. I made a post on Threads asking people what they would tell House Dems to do if they had their ear, and I’d run anything up the flagpole that I felt had merit. And I will. The problem is, most of it didn’t, as I expected. Most things mentioned are already being done, most people just don’t know about it. All I can do is spread the word as much as possible, cause I can only control my own content. My point is, spread the wins, spread when you see Dems fighting, cause, chances are, most people won’t see it otherwise.
Today’s wins did actually get some traction, but, as usual, no one posted any context. Hopefully the context makes these wins feel even more fruitful.
Today - Minnesota State Senator John Hoffman has been released from ICU after the assassination attempt on him, his wife Yvette and daughter Hope on June 14. Yvette posted a photo of Senator Hoffman leaving the hospital taken by Hope on IG and Threads
Wed June 25 - At the Michelin Guide California ceremony, Aitor Zabala, owner of the first three-Michelin-star restaurant in LA, Somni, ripped off his suit to reveal a t-shirt that says “Immigrants Feed America.” During his speech he said:
It’s nice to be back after five years. It’s nice to see people that we know and see people get recognition in the industry. I know how privileged I am to be here, I know I’m an immigrant with privilege, and was able to come in a different way. I want to make a voice not only for me tonight but also for people that weren’t in my position. They have the same talent as me but they will never be here, so I want to make it for them, too. These people are also working hard, they have dreams, and they still keep the faith to move on. So I want to make it for that.
I wish I had a video, but they didn’t live stream this ceremony on the Michelin YouTube like they normally do, for whatever reason. So this quote comes from LA Eater’s overheard.
This speech and reveal isn’t a remotely surprising turn of events considering that on June 13, he posted this on IG (read the caption, it’s the best part)
Yesterday - Fayette County, Tennessee lawmakers have agreed to create 3 majority Black county commissioner districts after threats of a lawsuit from NAACP’s Legal Defense Fund. Up till this point, they have had zero districts that Black voters have had a say in and all 19 district commissioners are white. Feyette County is comprised of more than 1/4th Black residents and now the commissioner board will reflect that!
John Cusick, LDF assistant council said:
Our lawsuit sent a clear message that Fayette County has to treat everyone fairly in the map drawing process. The new map is a huge victory for Black voters that only happened because of our clients’ courage and unshakeable determination to fight for full citizenship and equal rights. We look forward to the 2026 election cycle where Black voters will finally have a chance to participate equally in the democratic process.
This is the power of fighting back, and I can’t wait to see what these new districts will bring, but, they’re only going to flip if people actually vote, so, as always, it’s a reminder that every single vote matters in every single election no matter how small.
So I hope these were as fruitful as I promised and made your day better.
Your vote and your voice are your superpower, but only when you use them!
Yay for a win against gerrymandering!!!
Thank you Ariella!
