I just want to give you a little insight of what it took to find these stories.
Every day I put the wins I find into a list, right now, the list consists of 20 wins. Now, some of those will be out of date by the time I get to them, some of them weren’t clear and aren’t wins in the way I thought, but the vast majority of them are wins and worth posting.
The problem is, I either copied a link from Threads or an article and 9 times out of 10, it will say “X said in a statement” without any link whatsoever to the statement. As you know, I don’t post without the source material, so that doesn’t work for me.
Typically, I copy the quote and paste it into Google and SOMETIMES I find the source. But Google hasn’t been a reliable search engine for a while now, and that’s scary and frustrating, cause there really isn’t an alternative. (and yes I’ve tried DuckDuckGo and Ecosia, and they are both even worse than Google for what I need them for)
TLDR, it took 30 minutes to find 3 wins that are accurate and are completely sourced. And that’s a problem.
Now, for the big reveal of those three wins!
Wed, July 9 - The Democratic Governor’s Association reserved an ad buy in New Jersey of over $20m in advance of the November gubinatorial election. This means that they are paying summer prices for coveted ad space that would distrastically increase in price as it gets closer to the fall. It shows that our DGA is thinking ahead and that’s a really great sign.
DGA political director, Jordy Zeigler said:
The DGA is committed to holding New Jersey’s governorship and making sure that voters up and down the Garden State understand the stakes of this election. While Mikie Sherrill stays relentlessly focused on bringing down costs, putting more money in people’s pockets, and keeping New Jersey moving forward, Jack Ciattarelli has pledged to bring Donald Trump’s chaos and extremism to Trenton. The contrast is clear: Mikie will put New Jersey first, while Ciattarelli has no problem selling out working families to please party leaders, and we look forward to making him a three-time loser in this year’s governor’s race.
Mon, July 14 - Delaware Governor Matt Meyer signed four bills into law that help protect the DE immigrant community. HB 142 stops warrantless arrests for felony charges in another state and officers can no longer demand help for these arrests by private civilians. HB 152 strengthens the statute against impersonating a law enforcement officer. HB 153 abolishes citizens’ arrests. And finally HB 182 is the big one, it bans local law enforcement from working or sharing data with ICE or other federal immigration authorities.
When signing the bills, Gov Meyer said:
Every Delawarean has the fundamental right to live in a secure, respectful, and inclusive community. That’s why we’re taking meaningful steps to address outdated laws and private‑enforcement loopholes. These reforms are about recommitting to being a state of neighbors and working toward better, safer communities for Delaware residents.
Bravo Delaware!
Also, while I focus on the source material, I'm going to start giving credit to the local publication where I found the story in the first place, even if I didn’t use much of their reporting. So, shout out to WHYY, Delaware’s public broadcasting station that needs your support!
Wed, July 16 - Pouria Pourhosseinhendabad and Parisa Firouzabadi, two married Iranian students at Louisiana State University were released from ICE detention after being kidnapped in late June after DT bombed Iran. Louisiana ACLU legal director, Nora Ahmed said:
This victory is a powerful affirmation of immigrants’ rights and the fundamental guarantee of due process and equal protection in our legal system. This is the same kind of discrimination that occurred with the internment of Japanese Americans in the 1940s, which we committed never to repeat. And yet, we were right here on June 22, the day after the United States bombed Iran–indiscriminately rounding up Iranians on U.S. soil. Pouria and Parisa should never have been detained and we’re relieved they’re finally free. However, this case also underscores that when the government’s power is allowed to go unchecked, entire communities are left vulnerable to sweeping abuses of power.
Shout out to the reporting from LA Illuminator, a nonprofit newsroom.
