Today was such a busy day. I gave a talk to Microsoft Dems (if any of you are reading this, hi! It was lovely sharing my insight with you all and I hope to do it again!) Then I did a LIVE with Rep Mike Levin (CA-49), which you can watch now on IG, I just didn’t have time to edit it for YouTube today, so it will be in tomorrow’s Daily Dems. And then I had a lovely chat with Ami Bera’s (CA-06) office about this week’s Repping the Rep (first time I’ve talked to an office while I’m still highlighting their boss!).
Needless to say, it was a long day, and I’m going to enjoy writing these wins as much as you will hopefully enjoy reading them. (Let me know what you think of these ranty intros. I like sharing a bit of my life with you, but if you don’t give a shit, let me know.)
Yesterday - CA will not be complying with the US Department of Justice Civil Rights Division’s ridiculous trans girls sports ban request. Learn the name Len Garfinkle, because I have a feeling we’re gonna be hearing a lot from him in the coming months. He is the general council for the California Department of Education and he made this abundantly clear, in a letter to Harmeet Dhillon, the Assistant Attorney General for the division.
Contrary to the DOJ letter, the Equal Protection Clause does not require that athletic teams be segregated by “biological sex,” and the CIF policy and the Education Code sections upon which that policy is predicated neither classify nor discriminate based on “biological sex.” Furthermore, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has twice held that categorically preventing students from participating in sports consistent with their gender identity, as the DOJ letter demands, likely violates the Equal Protection Clause.
If only the current federal government knew or cared what was in a given clause.
Tues, July 8 - The Democratic Senate Campaign Committee (DSCC) has launched a new ad titled “Lifelines” in eight of the target states, including must wins like Georgia.
Caroline Vakil of The Hill said:
The ads will run on connected TV channels including NBC, Roku, Hulu, Vizio and Tubi. They’re expected to air in Georgia, North Carolina, Maine, Michigan, Texas, Alaska, Iowa, and Ohio — the states will see the most competitive Senate races next year.
It’s of course all about the Big Ugly Law and uses clips from news reports in those states talking about the likely outcome.
Today - Seven Los Angeles County cities joined the Vasquez Perdomo v Noem lawsuit, which demands a stop to the ICE raids. These cities include Culver City, LA, Montebello, Monterey Park, Pasadena, Santa Monica and West Hollywood. Unfortunately, that is only 7 of the 88 LA cities, but it’s a start.
So those are just some of today’s wins. I hope knowing them makes your day a bit easier.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
I love your little “ranty intros.” 😄😍
Do keep sharing about your life! Re: the ads you mentioned…in line with those here in Michigan (tho not coordinated as far as i know) I’m part of a group writing postcards to voters in Republican districts with the information they are not likely getting on Fox News. For example, that their Representative just voted to cut our healthcare next year and to please contact him if they are concerned.
