Today was a bit frustrating. I had to keep reminding myself that it’s not my job to be the first to post something, it’s my job to post with intention.
It’s becoming easier and easier to forget that and just stare at my phone trying to post something faster than someone else without making sure I’m using the best source and spreading the information to the best of my ability.
I say this because I’m sure I’m not the only one who went through this today, so please remember that it’s easy to fall into some version of doomerism, the important thing is realizing it, adjusting, and getting ourselves out again.
Anyway, here are today’s wins.
The Washington State House will no longer require 2/3 of the legislative body to end debate, a rule that Rs used to slow and sometimes stop the passage of bills. This rule was in place for 134 years. The vote was 54-33 and now it only takes a simple majoirty to end Debate. With 59 Dems and 39 Republicans, this means a lot more very good bills will be passed in the WA House. This happened Fri, but was publicized today.
Five Quaker congregations are suing DHS for making it legal for ICE to raid houses of worship in search of people to deport
As so many reputable publications bend at the knee, Chicago Tribune’s editorial board writes a scathing editorial against the deportation raids and “Dr.” Phil McGraw making a spectacle out of them. The article is well worth a read saying everything you’d hope they would.
The link is for archive’s version without a paywall, but if you want to support Chicago Tribune, because they aren’t bowing down, you can read from their website here.
So those are today’s stories. Everyday people are fighting back, and we need to make sure to lift those people up as much as possible.
