No, really. For the past few years, I’ve watched the SuperBowl pre-game, commercials and halftime show and strained to find any diversity, equity or inclusion. But this year, it was basically the entire thing, from the first note sung to the last commercial break. Not to mention the team with all the Trumpers lost and the team that Jill Biden supports won.
So, this is a little different than usual. It’s not three wins today, it’s 2….or 12, depending on how you look at it.
NJ AG Matt Platkin is very clear that Musk must comply with the judge and delete all data taken from the Treasury Dept, and if he doesn’t, the Dem AGs will make him do so by any means within their control.
And, from what I’m hearing, they have some ideas up their sleeve…
The Superbowl. Oh, you want more detail? Glad you asked!
Starting with Ledisi performing “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” with 125 New Orleans high school students. On the 125th anniversary of the song being written. I don’t remember them explaining the history of the song before.
Then HBCU Southern University’s Human Jukebox marching band performed with The Original Pinettes, an all female brass band.
Then the intro was Brad Pitt, talking all about how America exists becauseit is diverse, equitable and inclusive. There was ASL, Tuskeegee airmen, wheelchair athletes, many many references to the March on Washinton, and so much more. And if you’re wondering why it was Brad Pitt, “Inglorious Bastards” might have something to do with it.
It is the first year of Germany's occupation of France. Allied officer Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) assembles a team of Jewish soldiers to commit violent acts of retribution against the Nazis, including the taking of their scalps.
It’s not subtle.
The next commercial touting, our diverse, equitable, and inclusive country was the first of two from the NFL. This one is about children who might not be given the same opportunities as those who currently run the country. But that doesn’t matter, because every single kid deserves to be somebody.
We move on to our first non NFL related ad with Rocket Morgage titled “Own the Dream.” It’s about the American Dream and how everyone deserves to own it, no matter who they are, what their circumstances are, or where they’re from.
We move on to Nike and the first of two ads about Women’s Sports. This one is about how when someone tells you you can’t do something, you must prove them wrong. And it stars some of the greatest womens’ sports stars in the country.
Novartis had a really memorable ad that promoted breast cancer awareness. It also calls out society’s obsession with breasts as a sexual object in the process.
The final NFL ad is all about their mission to have a women’s flag football team in all 50 states. And the entire ad is about how women are stronger, faster and better athletes than men.
You think we’re done? Not even close.
Science Moms, a group of climate scientists who are also moms put out an ad titled “By the Time” three years ago. It’s all about the climate crisis they are passing down to their children. They aired it again today.
And only now do we come to halftime.
Kendrick Lamar is a political artist, so of course it was going to be political, but it’s more than I could have ever imagined.
You just have to watch it for yourself….
Wait…seems like Apple already removed the ability for Americans to watch it, if that tells you anything about the content
Good thing so many other people uploaded it
We’re almost done, I promise!
Finally, Jeep and Harrison Ford did a commercial all about freedom, real freedom, that ended with a rainbow.
I hope you forgive me for only posting 2 wins, and, for the record, I missed a lot. Ram’s ad was pretty great, Jon Batiste sang “Land of the free” three times in the National Anthem, and even more than I’ve already forgotten.
This was our night. I hope this fills you with pride, but also the fight we need to take back our country, and make all these ads a reality!
