Today I chose wins coming from all different places, we have one from us, the citizen protesters, one from a state legislator and a lawsuit from a union.
There are wins all around us every single day, you just have to be looking for them.
VA-01 R Rep Rob Wittman’s staff hosted mobile office hours. They were expecting to talk to people who needed help with federal agencies (Ironic, considering how he voted on the budget blueprint.)
What they got instead was 200 protesters calling out Wittman’s incredible hypocrisy. Follow their lead, find out where your rep, or their staff will be, and go every single time. If it’s a public event or it’s for constituents, it’s not off limits.
MI R State Rep Josh Schriver held a press conference announcing resolution to overturn Obergefell v Hodges, and then proceeded to leave without answering any questions. His gay colleague, Jeremy Moss attended this press conference because if Schriver was going to call gay people perverse, he wanted Schrier to have to say it to his face. Well, when Schriver just walked out, Moss took over the press conference himself.
This is exactly what we want to ask Dem electeds to do when doing an Adopt-a-District town hall. Jumping up when no one expects them to be there and taking over.
And shout out to Michigan Advance for covering the story, there are a lot of reporters there, but they seem to be the only ones who wrote an article, at least, so far.
United Farm Workers and some Bakerfield residents are suing DHS and Border Patrol in response to the raids in the Central Valley last month. One of the plaintiffs said:
“They stopped us because we look Latino or like farmworkers, because of the color of our skin. It was unfair. I hope our rights are protected so that all workers can work and live in peace.”
I know I’m a broken record, but no matter what happens in the course of the day, there will always be some wins somewhere. Always be on the look out for them. There are so many more than I have the chance to share!
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
