A lot of things happened today, but I want to highlight Republicans maybe possibly beginning to grow a backbone. Because, it’s going to take them standing with us for us to truly rebuild Democracy, so we can’t just ignore when it seems like they’re heading in the right direction.
We had a bunch of election wins, but let’s focus on two. In Norman, OK, a pretty purple city with an incumbent Republican Mayor, Democrat Stephen Tyler Holman won by 26%!
And in the Westchester County, NY, Executive race DT weighed in a few days ago to support the Republican, and it wasn’t enough. Democrat Ken Jenkins, who was favored to win, won by as much, if not more than Kamala won the district by. We don’t know exact numbers yet, because they are not done counting.
So never ever let anyone tell you that voting doesn’t matter. And, just to really drive that point home, look at voter turnout in the elections across OK. Some of these races had less than 100 people turn out. So when I say anything can happen in a special election, this is exactly why.
It would be an understatement to say that Ken Griffin, a republican hedgefund billionaire, hates DT’s tariffs. He said this while speaking at a UBS conference in Miami:
From my vantage point, the bombastic rhetoric, the damage has already been done, and it's a huge mistake to resort to this form of rhetoric when you're trying to drive a bargain, because it like imprints, it sears into the minds of CEOs, policymakers…Uncertainty and chaos created by the tariff dynamics between us and our allies is an impediment to growth…It makes it difficult for multinationals in particular to think about how to plan for the next five, 10, 15, 20 years.
A nice reminder that we need to start calling corporations, not just politicians. DT might not care about us, but he CERTAINLY cares about them.
And finally, some bizarre news from our Republican Senators.
Senators Josh Hawley, Mike Rounds, John Thune, Chuck Grassley, and John Kennedy all publicly said today that they believe judicial rulings should be followed no matter what. This comes after Vance, Johnson and Musk said otherwise.
Now, it is just words right now, but, that’s significantly more than we’ve gotten up to this point. I’d say I’m cautiously optimistic and to keep blowing up their phones, but this time, include a thank you and ask them to follow through.
