Not only do we have wins every single day, but so many of them are our own doing. Our outrage has an impact, don’t think for a second that your voice isn’t being heard.
On Saturday one of my wins was that during the Hands Off Protest in a small town in Jefferson County, NY called Sacket Harbor, they marched to Immigration Czar, Tom Homan’s house. A mother and her three children, their neighbors, had been abducted by ICE and they were demanding their release. Thanks to the relentless protesting from neighbors, Kathy Hochul announced yesterday that they were returning home.
Moments ago, I spoke once again with Mr. Homan who informed me that this family – a third grader, two teenagers and their mother – are currently on their way back to Jefferson County. I cannot imagine the trauma these kids and their mom are feeling, and I pray they will be able to heal when they return home.
There were around 100k people at the Boston Hands Off on Saturday. On Sunday, The Boston Globe relegated the coverage to page 11. Many who attended the protest were utterly horrified and made sure The Boston Globe knew. They were so loud, TBG’s Letters page included only those about their protest coverage. Strange how TBG rather do that than cover the protests properly. Here is a quote from one of those letters:
I am disappointed with the Globe’s coverage of the massive Hands Off! protest rallies in Boston and across the United States. There were tens of thousands of concerned Americans marching in the streets of Boston, and a total of hundreds of thousands nationwide. I was expecting to see a big headline at the top of the Sunday Globe. Instead, what did I see? Roughly a square inch of text toward the bottom of the front page that directed me to turn to Pages B1 and A11 for details. Ho-Hum.
MN Department of Education sent a letter to the US Department of Education, letting them know they will not be complying with the requirement to support the white supremisist agenda. They also wrote a letter to the schools and educators explaining their decision:
MDE has been faithfully implementing education programs in accordance with federal and state law and will continue to do so. ED’s recent request does not change our work or our commitments to serving learners. We will not allow uncertainty or threats to penalize the most vulnerable children in Minnesota
There will be countless institutions and people and organizations that bow down, but there are and will continue to be so many that don’t and we need to amplify and celebrate those as much as possible. Remember, when this nightmare ends, those that bowed down won’t be in good shape to continue their business.
I hope this made your day a little better.
Our voices are our superpower, but ONLY when we use them!
