I hope you’re still feeling the high of yesterday, and Tuesday. Every week is not going to be like this, but I hope you can store up the joy of this week to have with you on the weeks when you need it most.
Anyway, here are three of today’s wins!
Ariella Elm is a reader-supported publication. Please consider getting a paid subscription or buying me a coffee! I can only do this with support from viewers like you (I’ve always wanted to say that, I hope PBS doesn’t have it copywritten…)
The conservative New Civil Liberty Alliance is suing DT over tariffs. You might remember them as the group that sued the Biden admin over student loan forgiveness. If they’re on our side with something, DT is kinda in trouble. Senior Litigation Counselor, Andrew Morris said this about the lawsuit:
By invoking emergency power to impose an across-the-board tariff on imports from China that the statute does not authorize, President Trump has misused that power, usurped Congress’s right to control tariffs, and upset the Constitution’s separation of powers
The fact that that’s coming from a Conservative is just…wow.
At the Hands Off 2025 in Jefferson County, NY, 1000 protesters peacefully marched to Border Czar, Tom Holman‘s, home to demand the release of a mother and three children who were taken. This is a small town. Everyone knows everyone, and everyone knew this family. One of the protesters said:
I’ve driven them to their house after tutoring sessions. I’ve picked them up for tutoring sessions. In this kind of town, this is a car pool town. I know them.
I hope they continue to protest peacefully at his home. He deserves to know the horrific pain he’s causing every second of every day.
Five publishing houses, Simon and Schuster, Penguin Random House, Hachette Book Group, Macmillan Publishers and SourceBooks, and 4/5 of the big ones, Harper Collins is owned by Rupert Murdoch, signed a letter to Congress supporting the US Institute of Museum and Library Services
Every American has the right to access information and books that showcase a diversity of perspectives and experiences. Books build empathy, offer knowledge, and explore complex topics in long form. Libraries are essential community hubs that provide free access to these valuable tools and resources. Defunding libraries would result in mass closures and the destruction of a system that today benefits millions of Americans.
Let’s make sure to support these incredible publishers, and maybe, not the other one.
There were so many more wins today, but I chose these cause I thought you might not know about them.
Our voices are our superpower, but ONLY when we use them!
I just became a paid member because I find your Three Wins column is often the high point of my day. Also, thanks for highlighting the hard work representatives outside my miserable state of Texas are doing. It gives me a glimmer of hope!
These are great wins, thank you for sharing. And I think the sea change of April 5 is lasting.
