There were a lot of wins I saw today, and I do mean A LOT. I have six alone that I wrote down and I stopped looking at about 12pm.
So I can guarantee you that I don’t have all the wins you’ve seen today either. When I say comment with your favorite wins of the day, I mean it! Share the wins you’ve seen. I’m sure they’re different than the ones I did.
So here are three of them.
This is a biggie. For the last two months, the only clinic that performs abortions in Wyoming has been unable to perform them. But, today, Wyoming Judge Thomas C Campbell ruled that
At least at this juncture, the State Defendants failed demonstrating that the laws are necessary, reasonable, or advance a compelling government interest.
So, starting Thursday, that one abortion clinic will begin performing abortions again. In the last two months, they have had to refer 80 patients out of the state to get care, so this will help quite a few people.
On April 9, though I just learned about it today, a letter went out to non profit organizations inviting them to sign onto a statement, to date, 432 organizations have signed on. The statement affirms that they will fight against the administration if the admin tries to come after the freedom to donate to any given charity. Which is looking more and more likely by the day. As the statement states:
We don’t all share the same beliefs or priorities. Neither do our donors or the communities we serve. But as charitable giving institutions, we are united behind our First Amendment right to give as an expression of our own distinct values. Especially in this time of great need, we must have the freedom to direct our resources to a wide variety of important services, issues, and places, to improve lives today and build a stronger future for our country. The health and safety of the American people, our nation’s economic stability, and the vibrancy of our democracy depend on it.
You can also see the list of all 432 signitories as well.
As we say time and time again, we are a big tent party right now and while we don’t all share the same values, we do all share the right to have those values and the freedom of democracy.
Some groups are obeying in advance, but these organizations are uniting in advance instead. In Tennessee a bill, SB1058 is headed to the governor’s desk that will increase elementary school daily recess to 40 mins a day. And, the best part is “A student shall not be withheld from participating in physical activity as a form of punishment.” or maybe it’s that PE can’t count as part of these 40 mins a day.
Actually, that’s not the best part, the best part is that the bill was introduced by Republican State Senator Rusty Crowe. The bill passed the Senate with one vote against and the House unanimously last Thursday.I don’t know what the best part of this bill is, every single word on these two pages is hopeful and wonderful. Republicans NEVER seem to care about the well being of kids, but this bill does, and that matters.
So yet another day of some incredible wins, that will hopefully make your day better. And please take me up on adding your favorites in the comments. I can’t cover them all!
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
Okay that bill in Tennessee is very much surprising. I mean yeah recess for the kids actually is a good idea especially if they actually can cut down on disciplinary issues later in the day and let the kids burn off that energy.
Katie Hobbs' veto letter from February 18 is good reading. She writes, "Making it less convenient to vote is something I have consistently said I cannot support." https://mcusercontent.com/44a5186aac69c13c570fca36a/files/b0dc3bd5-7849-c4ef-3da2-3938d04b26b0/Scan_from_GOV9_Exec_Xerox8170_3_.pdf
