Today’s wins are a reminder of how much power WE have. Every single one of them only happened because of the people standing up and speaking out.
We all have the ability to DO SOMETHING.
In San Jose, the was a gun ad above a neighborhood liquor store. The residents called their Mayor and city council member. Their city council member let them know they didn’t like it either, and today, the billboard was taken down.
This is why I say local elections matter SO much, cause most things happen in our backyard, and we need people in power in our back yard who are on our side and fight for us.12 House Republicans have written a letter to Speaker Johnson letting him know that cutting Medicaid is a red line for them. Yes, I’m serious:
As Members of Congress who helped to deliver a Republican Majority, many of us representing districts with high rates of constituents who depend on Medicaid, we would like to reiterate our strong support for this program that ensures our constituents have reliable healthcare. Balancing
the federal budget must not come at the expense of those who depend on these benefits for their health and economic security. And all 12 of these are names you should know. Not because you would have heard of them before the first recess, but because these are the districts where there were the town halls and empty chair town halls went the most viral.
This was you. This was people showing up and making their voices heard. These 12 now realize there is more of a threat of being primaried by their constituents than by DT. We succeeded and now we just have to keep going!
The unions in the state of Utah have received more than double the signatures needed for their referendum. This referendum would put it on the ballot to reverse the just passed law that banned collective bargaining in the state.
There is one caveat though, there’s another rule that it has to reach a certain threshold in at least 15 of 29 counties in the state.
That said, the unions are considering this a HUGE win regardless of the outcome of that caveat.
So this is a huge day for wins, and a huge day for people powered wins.
Which makes my slogan all the more important:
Our voices ARE our superpower, but ONLY when we use them!
Thanks for linking to the letter. I heard AOC reference that at the rally in Missoula. It strengthens all of us knowing our voices matter. And that while it seems moot at times, we have to keep pushing.
Jeff Hurd is one of the Republicans who has signed on in that letter, and he is my local rep. After months of calling and writing to him and hearing absolutely nothing, it is such an incredible relief to see him actually doing something to help rather than hurt us. This will be the first time I get to send him a message thanking him for standing up for us.
Thank you for what you are doing. I never would have found out about this otherwise. It is an incredible source of comfort in dark days.
