Always, we have some great wins today
REI has apologized for signing a letter with other Outdoors organizations backing Doug Burgum as secretary of the interior. It’s worth noting, this announcement was made less than two weeks after Mary Beth Laughton became the company’s CEO. And she’s the one in the video.
It seems like maybe REI is turning over a new leaf. They have a long way to go, this was not the only issue. Next they need to stop union busting.
But any company willing to reverse having bowed down and start standing up gets at least some kudos. And they will become very popular if they actually go back to their roots. And it seems like Laughton might just know that.
Three days ago Maine sued USDA over:
a blatantly unlawful action taken by the United States Secretary of Agriculture freezing federal funds allocated to Maine to feed schoolchildren. The Secretary took this action without following any of the statutory and regulatory requirements that must be complied with when terminating federal funds based on alleged violations of Title IX
The admin will literally let children starve because the state believes trans kids should be allowed to play sports. What BS. So glad the lawsuit has officially been filed!
The Illinois Supreme Court says that Republicans waited way too long and they cannot challenge the 2021 state Senate district maps. The majority conclusion states:
Plaintiffs’ approach would also be prejudicial and create uncertainty for voters and officeholders alike, now and in the future, as to whether any redistricting plan in Illinois is ever final. Plaintiffs’ motion for leave to file was brought more than three years and four months after the adoption of the current map. This delay is 32 months more than the delay in the 2012 challenge, which this court denied in Cross. We are closer to the next decennial census than the last. Plaintiffs seek to use data that may now be stale, which could be prejudicial to the parties as well as the public.
This is why judges are one of the most important offices we vote for.
I hope these wins made your day a little brighter!
Our voices are our superpower, but ONLY when we use them!
Encouraging news. Thank you for sharing, and for counting the wins. Each of them keeps
us going.
That REI message is how a public entity should apologize. So good to see that. Thank you for sharing and glad we've been REI Coop members for decades.
