Pretty much everyone has the day off, and that’s me included. I had no meetings, no breaking news to deal with, I even got my two hour break in the middle of the day, it was lovely. Doing nothing to acknowledge what this day is actually supposed to stand for, but I do hope you had a nice quiet day, regardless of what you chose to call it.
Tues, July 1 - Biden Appointee, Judge Melissa Dubose issued a preliminary injunction against the mass firing at HHS in the lawsuit filed by 20 Dem Attorneys General. Her conclusion is *chef’s kiss*
The Executive Branch does not have the authority to order, organize, or implement wholesale changes to the structure and function of the agencies created by Congress. As Judge Smith in this district court recently warned when presented with the declining depth of civics education in public schools, “we may choose to survive as a country by respecting our Constitution, the laws and norms of political and civic behavior, and by educating our children on civics, the rule of law, and what it really means to be an American, and what America means. Or, we may ignore these things at our and their peril.”
Mon, June 30 - A former Bath & Bodyworks manager sued the company for firing her after she refused to refer to a trans employee by their correct pronouns. I mean, the lawsuit is gross, but, it makes Bath & Bodyworks rank very highly in my book. And it’s not like this woman didn’t know their policy going in, it’s right on their website:
As an equal opportunity employer, we do not make employment decisions based on an individual’s race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, national origin, citizenship, age, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, pregnancy, genetic information, protected veteran status or any other legally protected status. We comply with all laws concerning nondiscriminatory employment practices. We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations for associates and job applicants, including disabilities and religion. Our management team is dedicated to ensuring fulfillment of this policy concerning recruitment, hiring, placement, promotion, transfer, training, compensation, benefits, associate activities and general treatment during employment.
If your religion doesn’t let you respect someone else’s gender identity, that does, in fact go against their “Equal Employment Opportunity” policy
LL Cool J announced he dropped out of the WaWa welcome to America 4th of July concert in Philly yesterday because he refuses to cross the AFSCME DC 33 picket line. He posted this video to announce it:
Today, Jazmine Sullivan also dropped out. She announced it in her IG story
AFSCME District Council 33 President, Greg Boulware, responded to both announcements. This one is about LL Cool J’s decision
And this one about Jazmine Sullivan’s
What a powerful statement from these two stars! Solidarity forever, union strong!
Our wins matter, and every win should be amplified as much as possible. They are what’s gonna keep us going!
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
Keep up the great work. I celebrated the Fourth as a rededication to the principles of the Declaration of Independence! That it is The People’s consent that gives their government legitimacy. All are equal under the law. And our inalienable rights!
Thank you for all that you are doing. I hope you had a rejuvenating day off. I am happy you are in this earth right now! We take care of one another!
