It's Thurs! That means that Indivisible's "What's the Plan" Zoom just wrapped up, except, it' a little different this week. Meidas Touch actually posted it live on YouTube! There were about 8k people joining between Zoom and YouTube.
This also means that you can watch the recording yourself, right now.
So, instead of summarizing everything in detail, I'm gonna be a bit less strict with myself, and maybe, just maybe, this will be shorter as a result.
What Indivisible believes.
If you've been following along the last many weeks, you probably already know this, but I wanted to highlight just three of them.
If Republicans had any ounce of integrity, they'd switch parties right now.
Courage is contagious, if other people, or institutions see us being courageous, they will be too.
"Power" is about making a person or institution (no matter how local) do something they wouldn't do otherwise.
There are still 10 Indivisible groups forming or restarting every single day.
Events
Today, May 1, a Thursday, and there are over 1100 events planned or already happening nationwide.
Next National Day of Protest is Flag Day and DT's birthday, June 14. It will be everywhere but DC, because we want his stupid military parade to get the least attention possible. Next week is the official launch, but the website went live literally as they mentioned it.
What's going on with 50501.
And Ezra and Leah pretty much said, it doesn't really matter, the beauty of pro democracy movements are that they're run by humans and therefore they can get messy sometimes and that's okay. We have to have grace with each other.
Is Indivisible doing anything massive for July 4.
No, because it's virtually impossible to plan something during a holiday weekend, BUT it's the perfect day to raise alarm in your community and corner your elected officials.
July 4th is a day for small home town parades. Consider a float that talks about what's happening or pressures your electeds to act a certain way. This is one of the few times that politicians are fully in the public square. This is arguably how Susan Collin's consistuents got her to vote to save the ACA back in 2017. Ask your elected a question on video and then post it. That will go viral instantly.
We have to raise the alarm as much as possible and turn this into a salient political issue
This was Leah's answer to several questions so I wanted to combine them.
How do we fight back against DOGI having access to all our data? What do we do about Homeland Security Investigations? Should we be concerned about DT declaring martial law? How do we combat DT trying to deport American Citizens?
The answers the same, we talk about it and talk about it and don't stop.
We have to stand with the communities that are being attacked, we have to remind everyone that has a choice to make that this political moment will come to an end and they will have to reckon with what they've done, and we have to remember that every single thing this Admin does is meant to instill fear, it shouldn't be about any individual question, they all come back to these same answers. They also mentioned that Chuck Grassley's town hall is a great blueprint of one way to raise alarm.
Right energy, but not exactly the right tactic.
DT's poll numbers are bad, but they were bad before the election how do we know we're not delusional?
It's not fun to hear, but they weren't that bad before the election, we were ignoring the polls. They were very close. The election was said to be within the margin of error, and it was. NOW, he's 10+ points underwater, that's not close.
The best way to bring them down further is to invite those into our coalition that voted for him and now feel lied to. It's a hard pill to swallow, but the way to defeat authoritarianism is to base your coalition on NO, not what policies you agree on, but rather which policies you don't. It's authoritarianism vs democracy and believing in democracy is the only requirement.unified and ideologically diversity is REQUIRED, that’s a feature, not a bug of the organizing we’re doing right now. This is why it's so important for us to have a unified Democratic opposition, we need it to be clear that the Republicans hold all the blame. When it comes to election, we need it to be clear what every single Democrat stands against, notice how I didn't say for, cause, we need to be the coalition of NO.
Are we working on a Project 2027?
The short answer is yes, the longer answer is that maybe that shouldn't be our end goal. The idea itself is pretty tained because of Project 2025.
Which is a huge political mess with net 0 ratings, just taking their idea and flipping it might not be the positive we think. And, we have to include people in our coalition right now that we disagree with on pretty much everything, so launching what we believe in could fracture our very fragile coalition we need to defeat fascism.
What about sending a Citizen's Whistleblower Complaint directed at Congress and Committees for failing to do their job?
Eh...constituents have power over their electeds, but non constituents really don't. Pressure coming from constituents alone is a lot more impactful because they care how you vote, they really don't care how someone else from another district votes.
The People's Cabinet was announced by the DNC at the beginning of April but I haven't heard anything since.
First, someone in the comments said that there will be an announcement in the next week or so (early May.)
Ezra says the idea really excites him because it's trying something We need to give them space to do so, and we'll see where it goes. But it's important to not wait around for the DNC to do something, or anyone, for that matter. Nobody is going to save us, we have to save ourselves. If you're screaming "do something," look internally first. For me, I started this whole thing (Daily Dems, Three Wins) because I saw a space that needed to be filled and I just filled it. You can do that too.
I'm so angry that Booker did the 25 hour speech and then the Sit In, and still voted for nominees this week.
First, if you're in NJ call Booker's office and tell them you're disappointed. Resistance is a muscle. That means we have to keep pushing them to exercise it, even if they've done something really amazing. It also means that we need to praise them whenever they do flex their muscle. And we have to celebrate where we are.
Only a few are still listening to James Carville anymore (including apparently David Hogg?)
Part of the goal of June 14 is to get some of these people who are fighting back some of the time to fight back all of the time and get those who aren't fighting back at all to start doing so. They need to understand it doesn't matter who is up for nomination. It's not about ideology, it's about holding DT completely accountable.
Boycotting companies that manufacture in El Salvador.
Economic noncooperation makes absolute sense, some great examples are how some local Indivisible groups are raising alarm about Avelo airlines, which is working with ICE for these kidnappings and the Target boycott, but Indivisible itself doesn't have the boycott expertise, so they are listening to those that do.
What they do know is that we can all participate where we have influence. What places in your life could be taking a stand? They mentioned colleges again. Find out if your university has stood up, and if not, make your displeasure heard. If you have a reunion coming up, if your institution has stood up you can do something celebrating them, if not you can do something protesting them with your fellow alums.
Also, support good media. That means subscribing, and making it paid subscriptions as much as possible (hint hint nudge nudge, I also have Buy Me A Coffee..)
How do we push to get Schumer out?
First off, I think Schumer is doing a lot of really good things, and ultimately, it would be easiest if we just keep pressuring him and he keeps doing good things. I think Indivisible doesn't quite know exactly what actions are being taken on a daily basis. But if he doesn't keep pushing back harder and harder, the only people that can oust him are Senators, so you have to contact your Senators.

pro-democracy movement stay together through ritual and community. That's why these weekly Zooms are so important, and why joining or creating an in person group Indivisible or otherwise matters so much.

Hi Ariella! I find your summaries of the weekly Indivisible Zooms to be extremely helpful and valuable. Thanks for doing it. I respect your "daily wins" reporting - these are deep dives I would never get around to taking. Thanks for your work!
