Today was a day of purity tests, and spreading discouragement and anger.
It’s really important on days like today to hear about our fighters.
Also, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, every day I try to post new tactics. I could post the same 6 people doing their same daily thing, but I try to do that as little as possible.
Based on how most people talk, you’d think that would be hard, but in reality, I ALWAYS find new ways that our Dems are fighting back!
Rep Veronica Escobar (TX-16)
Made my day this morning. I woke up to a comment from her on my Thread, trying to amplify this video.
This is a video you want to watch, I watched it in 2X speed, you can too. she explains why boycotting congressional events doesn’t work and why she resisted in the way she did at the joint address.
If you have good ideas, send them our way
But wait, there’s more. She commented on both my Threads AGAIN, and my Blue Sky reiterating that point:
So, take her up on it! If you’re in her district or not, if you have ideas for how she can be a better fighter, LET HER KNOW! She wants to hear from us. You can DM her on IG or Blue Sky or call her office or write a letter, but she very loudly and very clearly wants to hear from ALL OF US.
Rep Al Green and all the incredible House Dems who came to the Well
Are not getting the attention, love and praise they deserve.
As you all know, Al Green was censured with the unfortunate help of 10 Democrats, but this is our fighters, so that obviously is not the point of this section.
What you might not know is that when he was being censured, dozens of Democrats came to the well with him. He started singing “We Shall Overcome,” and the crowd of Dems joined in. Speaker Johnson kept trying to get “order,” to no avail, they wouldn’t stop singing.
It reminded me of what happened when the Tennessee Three were censured, which is a really powerful image to evoke.
I’ve gotten a lot of comments deriding the singing, but it’s important to know that every single protest movement has included, and arguably been strengthened by song. This song in particular is synonymous with the Civil Rights movement.
Music and art play a vital role in protest. If we don’t lift those moments up when they happen, I believe with all my heart that we are weaker.
This moment should be the most talked about moment of the day, and unfortunately, it’s not. I hope putting it here has a chance of changing that.
Senate Dems
Must be reading my comment section too. Because they started posting short, punchy clips from today’s press conference on the potential demolishment of the Department of Education
They posted Patty Murray (WA)
Chris Murphy (CT)
And Bernie Sanders (VT)
The posts didn’t get a lot of views, but they got some, and, here’s the coolest part, that may or may not be related. Forbes posted the full press conference, and their video has almost 100k views…
So, something is being done right.
Rep Adriano Espillat (NY-13)
Gave the Spanish language Dem joint address rebuttal. The National Republican Congressional Committee decided since he was speaking in Spanish, a good jab would be to call him an “illegal immigrant.”
He gave his reply to Symone Sanders Townsend, and I think it gives those of us who don’t speak Spanish a little peak into his rebuttal.
But, if you do speak Spanish, you can also listen to the rebuttal itself below.
Rep Robert Garcia (CA-42)
Is serious about going around California to Republican districts and doing town halls. So, if you are in a California Republican district, please work with your local group be at Indivisible or your local Democratic Party or Working Families Party or what have you, and contact his office and set something up for recess, which is the week of March 15!
Sen Elizabeth Warren (MA)
Wrote letters to the five billionaires who control our everything asking them why they deserve to have a tax cut but regular Americans don’t.
As with pretty much everything, Warren does, it’s absolutely brilliant.
Like with Sean Casten’s letter to Bezos yesterday, I want to see this in every paper that will publish it. I’m glad to see Semafor did, but I want more!
And finally, two people my audience typically really hates, but definitely deserve our praise today. At least, in terms of these incredible videos.
Can you guess who I’m talking about?
Rep Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08)
Posted a video, after getting off a Townhall with NY AG Letitia James (which I’ve heard from many was really well done), absolutely eviscerating the idea that Republicans introduced a resolution to remove Al Green from committees. I love how he’s not trying to look professional, and he’s not trying to say the correct thing, he’s just speaking his mind and it’s phenomenal.
THIS is what we want all day every day.
I bet you know who the second person is, right?
Sen Chuck Schumer (NY)
Also posted an incredible video. His is a takedown of the administration’s attempt to dismantle the Department of Education.
It’s direct, snarky and engaging, which is exactly what we need from him every single day. He’s not always such a fun-loving grandpa it turns out.
This is the energy we want so we need to praise them when they do it so that they do it all the time.
I don’t mean to be making these longer, but it seems to end up happening anyway.
I hope you got something out of today’s post and you now have some more fighters to be proud of.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
Thank you so much for doing this important work! We need inspiration to keep fighting, and we want to take note when our elected officials are standing up and punching back so we can thank them!
The longer, the better. I have been wondering how many of the poopooers are actually real people, or people jumping on the whiny bandwagon. It us starting to feel to me like the bots who were telling us that Kamala had no policies. That no matter how much policy was shared, it was not enough. Now these guys are easy targets. What is your take?
