Maybe I should be doing only three posts on Thursdays and Saturdays, because of the Indivisible Zoom summary I get started on this so late.
Anyway, here are some of today’s fighters
Repping the Rep: Julia Brownley (CA-26)
Spoke in a committee meeting today about the Republican attacks on public lands. One of the things I’ve learned about her throughout the week is how the environment is one of her most important causes
Rep Sydney Kamlager Dove (CA-37)
Interviewed Rep Ted Lieu (CA-36) for “Is This Sh*t Legal?” This week’s episode is all about the entertainment industry. Rep Kamlager Dove and Rep Lieu have neighboring districts, both with film studios, and the LA film industry is in real trouble.
DT‘s 100% tariff announcement on films produced outside the US will not help because there are films produced outside of the US that film here, just like there are films produced here that film outside the US. And without that, as Lieu mentions, there won’t be much story to work with among many other issues. They are both working hard to make sure that the film industry comes back to SoCal, starting with tax incentives, which should have been the answer in the first place.
Oh, and of course, this shit is not legal.

Rep Jahana Hayes (CT-05)
Had yesterday’s Democratic Daily Download it was posted after I finished this so I’m including it today. She talks all about how SNAP is our most effective anti-hunger program in the country, but it is severely out of date “Can you feed your family on $6 per person per day?“ and she discusses the discharge petition to get “Hands Off SNAP and Medicaid Act“ to the floor

Rep Nydia Velásquez (NY-07)
Is the ranking member on the small business committee and she had today’s Democratic Daily Download. This is Small Business week, so it’s the perfect week for her to give the presser. She discussed a people’s hearing that took place today with the Democratic steering and policy committee all about the Republican attack on small businesses. I wouldn’t have even known about it if not for this video.
And you can watch the full hearing as well.

Reps Ritchie Torres (NY-15) and Adriano Espaillat (NY-13)
Lead 37 of their Democratic colleagues in a letter urging the homeland security IG (and yes, an acting IG does exist) to investigate the conditions at the Louisiana ICE facility. “When due process is treated as optional and human dignity at disposable, we all have a civic duty to fight back” – Torres.

Sen Ruben Gallego (AZ)
Is headed to R Reps Brian Fitzpatrick’s and Scott Perry’s Bucks County PA for a DNC People’s Town Hall on Saturday. But given that he’s a Senator this is probably also because, as we know, neither Senator in PA is going to be holding one anytime soon. I will also say, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that this is happening days after that Fetterman article came out. Even though they have a Democrat, they just don’t have representation. You can RSVP here.

And finally….
Sen Adam Schiff (CA)
succeeded. Ed Martin’s name was pulled from nomination for US attorney for DC. This is the power of a hold. Even though a hold, just put sand in the gears, this sand had a major impact. As a result of it becoming too much of a headache, enough Republicans signaled they weren’t going to vote to confirm. Schiff did that.

Those are just some of today’s fighters. Like every day, you should go look yourself to see who some of the others are.
If you made it to the end of this post comment ⏳ (hourglass) but mostly for sand in the gears
And if you read or watched one of the links comment 🎬 (clapper) cause we have to get the film industry back to SoCal
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
