As always, please remember to comment on posts I include so that we can lift up our Dems doing the work!
We have to drown out the “ DO SOMETHING” crowd, especially on a day as amazing with as much unity as today.
Medicaid Day of Action
Today, the Democrats, across all levels of government, participate in Medicaid Day of Action. A completely unified messaging push from everyone. Some chose to do town halls, while others toured hospitals or gave press conferences or spoke to constituents in some other way.
I couldn’t even begin to post it all, so, go to your favorite social media platform and type in #SaveMedicaid, and see what our Dems were up to today!
House Democrats
Have started a daily press briefing for new media called “Democratic Daily Downlaod.” The first episode is about Medicaid, because, well, Medicaid Day fo Action, with minority whip Katherine Clark (MA-05)
I am so excited about the prospects of this endeavor, we’ve been asking for it for a really long time and now it’s here.
The one downside is that so far, at least, it’s only on YouTube. Everyone has an account, but very few people follow our Dems there.
Luckily, it’s very easy to make this more accessible. They can just crosspost on all platforms. So, leave a message on their IG story announcing this project and on the YouTube video itself to let them know they need to post it on IG, Blue Sky and Threads, not just YouTube.
But please do so respectfully. We are very excited about this prospect!
And thank you to Clark for posting it on her Blue Sky, now we just need the House Dems account to start posting too!
Rep Don Beyer (VA-08)
Conducted congressional oversight at the US Institute of Peace last night. The USIP is a non-governmental nonprofit, but because it was created by Congress and uses taxpayer money, DOGI is trying to dismantle it. The USIP helps prevents conflicts and wars around the world, something I guess this admin doesn’t support.
Yesterday they succeeded in entering the building, and, given his district’s close proximity to DC, Beyer was able to show up. He was on Rachel Maddow tonight and spoke about it more in depth. Hopefully that will be up very soon.
Rep Mike Levin (CA-49)
Held his 121st town hall since taking office in 2018 last night. Yes, you read that number correctly. On top of taking questions from constituents, he also had three constituents on stage to share their stories.
This is the full event, but, at least take the time to hear his intro. It exhibits exactly why he’s one of our best fighters.
House Ways and Means Committee Dems
Wrote a letter to chair Jason Smith demanding that they subpoena EM. Part of their argument for doing it now is thanks to the incredible viral speech from Rep John Larson (CT-01). They think they can get now attention on this that they just couldn’t have gotten before. I really hope they’re right.
DNC
Are investing in the first race since Ken Martin became chair. This is the earliest in the year they have ever invested in an election.
They are investing in ground operations to help elect Susan Crawford to the Wisconsin Supreme Court, which is vital if we want Wisconsin to ever be a Dem controlled state
AZ Sens Mark Kelly and Reuben Gallego
Held their first joint town hall on Medicaid in Phoenix. I can’t find much reporting on the event, but the local Fox affiliate did an okay job.
There are rumors going around that the town hall was invite only. Though, I don’t know if that’s true, I do know that Gallego has several town halls happening this week on his socials, right now, with RSVP links. I’m worried people are mistaking these links for “invite only.”
That said, even if it was, that doesn’t make it any less of a town hall. There are all sorts of events our electeds are doing throughout this week, and some of those are invite and some of them are open to the public and that’s okay. As long as they are doing public events, every event doesn’t have to be public.
This one was in a medical center, so chances are, if it wasn’t, it’s purely for safety reasons for the hospital.
And, if you want to make sure you do know about all events you can attend, you need to sign up for the newsletter for all your electeds, and turn on their post and story notifications on social media. That is the only way you won’t miss something.
Anyway, it seems like it was a very successful town hall, and I’m very glad it happened!
Oregon Congressional Delegation
Which includes Sens Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, as well Reps Suzane Bonamici (OR-01), Maxine Dexter (OR-03), Val Hoyle (OR-04), and Andrea Salinas (Janelle Bynum had a previously scheduled event) held a town hall for federal workers along with AG Dan Rayfield.
There were about 300 federal workers in attendance, asking questions and telling their stories. Oregon Capitol Chronicle did a great piece on the event, and you can also watch it, in full, below.
It feels part town hall, part hearing, which is exactly what former AL Sen Doug Jones pushed for two weeks ago (this is not the last time I will bring up his post today.)
If you got to the end of thi post, leave a 🫂 in the comments! Cause we could all use a hug today
And again, please remember to engage with the posts I’m highlighting themselves!
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
I appreciate you taking the time to write about what our Democratic Congressman/women are doing to make a difference. Unfortunately, the news is usually focused on what is going wrong. Thank you!
So happy to see the DNC investing in Susan Crawford’s campaign!
