On an average day this series gets seen by about 7000 people if you want that to change, and I assume you do, let this be your push to share it with more of your friends and family! (and If they don’t have this platform, that’s OK. I literally post it everywhere.)
We got a lot of fighters today so let’s get started!
Repping the Rep: Eleanor Holmes Norton (DC Del.)
Broke down the second anti-DC bill that the Republicans on the oversight committee jammed through today. The two bills are truly horrific and have to get attention so that they do not become law. The other bill, explained in detail in the press release, would prohibit noncitizens from voting in local municipal DC elections.
Rep Mike Thompson (CA-04)
Joined the protesters outside the Capitol when the Rules Committee markup started last night. He thanked them for being there and explained to them directly what will happen if the “Big Ugly Bill” becomes law.

Rep Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-05)
Is one of four Democrats on the rules committee and she has today’s Democratic Daily Download. She explains what happened so far as of the 12-hour mark, which was at 1 PM ET, and what was to come. As of right now, the markup is still going.

Rep Gwen Moore (WI-04)
Had an incredible testimony during this markup. You can watch the whole thing on YouTube
But if you don’t want to watch her whole testimony, at least watch the clip below which destroys the ridiculous notion that middle-class taxes will rise without the budget bill. As if somehow this big ugly bill actually lowers middle class taxes?

Rep Joe Neguse (CO-02)
Is on the Rules Committee and he has had a lot of really amazing moments throughout the last 18+ hours, but one of my favorite moments was when he twisted a republican colleague into a pretzel having to defend raising the deficit.

Rep Gabe Amo (RI-01)
Was in the House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing today with the hypocrite Secretary, Rubio, where he grilled him on aid that hasn’t left the country and, when he didn’t know what Amo was talking about, Amo accused him of having too many jobs he can’t keep track of them all.

Sen Alex Padilla (CA)
Did a not-so-great thing this week concerning crypto, but he did a really great thing too, many actually.
This great thing was blocking the SAVE Act from coming to the floor, again. They keep trying to bring it, and he keeps blocking it. It’s important to criticize our electeds when they do the wrong thing but its just as important, maybe even moreso, to praise and amplify them when they do the right thing, even when those things are days apart.
Keep in mind, we hate the SAVE Act, but some Republicans love it, so we need to make sure to drown out the anger he’s definitely getting calls and emails about with support and thanks, that makes sure he keeps doing it.
On the flip side, if you live in California, call his office and tell them how disappointed you are in the crypto vote. Do both, your criticism holds far more water when you do both.

Rep Madeline Dean (PA-05)
Demanded to know why Education Secretary Linda McMahon doesn’t give a shit about disabled students during the House Appropriations Committee budget hearing on the Department of Education.

And finally…
The Late Rep Gerry Connoly (VA-11)
Died today. So I wanted to honor him by telling you about his final bill which was introduced on Monday. The bill is called “The Esophageal Cancer Awareness Act” which is what he died from. And it would commission a study on the gaps in screening and prevention. And if you want to keep up with it’s progress, you can do so here.
May his memory be a blessing.
Remember to amplify all these incredible Democrats, who are fighting for us.
If you made it to the end of this post comment with 🩼 ( crutches) because all students, including those who are disabled, have the right to a good education.
And if you watched any of the videos comment with 💤 (Zs) cause that’s what our members of Congress should’ve been doing at 1 AM
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
Thank you for posting this information. I participate in Hopium Chronicles, and multiple people have supplied the link to your substack there. Hopefully that means new subscribers.
The good news here keeps me going on the fight to get our democracy back.
