Another day of people bashing Dems instead of lifting up what they’re actually doing.
However, I do have hope that one day this will change. The more we highlight our amazing fighters, the less they can be ignored,
So, let’s get to work!
Sens Chuck Schumer (NY), Dick Durbin (IL), Amy Klobuchar (MN) and Cory Booker (NJ)
held this week’s Weekly Senate Dems Press Conference. It’s only 12 minutes, 6 if you watch in 2x, and I highly recommend it, or, at the very least, watch Klobuchar and Booker, they are absolutely on fire!
And I just got a comment on Blue Sky saying that this commenter’s MAGA parents actually listen when Klobuchar talks. That’s a very good sign.
And Bravo to Booker for posting a clip on his Blue Sky.
And that wasn’t the only press conference today either.
Rep Sarah Elfreth (MD-03)
Introduced her first bill and announced it at a press conference. The bill is called “Protect Probationary Employees Act,” and, amazingly, it has bipartisan support. Republicans Michael Baumgartner (WA-05) and Jeffrey Hurd (CO-03) have even cosponsored it. Republicans have struggled to publicly denounce anything DOGI is doing, so the fact that Elfreth got them to cosponsor this, is a pretty huge thing.
Our favorite Senator, Chris Van Hollen, is introducing the same bill in the Senate. And, of course, he spoke at the press conference as well.
Sometimes I don’t know how he has the time to speak at every single rally and press conference, against that Admin, that happens in DC. But we’ve all seen it, so I guess he does.
Rep Jason Crow (CO-06)
Went on Tara Palmeri’s podcast “Someone’s Gotta Win.” She touts herself as being nonpartisan, but she worked for conservative paper Washington Examiner, and anyone who thinks that you can be a responsible journalist and be nonpartisan when the other side literally just makes up lies, is probably on the other side, at least somewhat.
So, this is another example of a Dem being interviewed in a conservative space, and I think he did a great job.
He represents Aurora CO, so DT’s immigration bigotry doesn’t just effect his constituents but is intentionally targeting them. He explains the demographic of his district and why DT’s bigotry towards it is so dangerous among other things.
Highly recommend you check this one out!
Reps Sara Jacobs (CA-50) and Brittany Pettersen (CO-07)
Filed a discharge petition with Republicans, Mike Lawler (NY-17) and Anna Paulina Luna (FL-13) to force a floor vote on their resolution to allow parents to proxy vote up to 6 weeks after their child is born. They know that if it comes to the floor it will pass but Johnson hasn’t let that happen.
A discharge petition needs 218 members to agree to bypass committee for that particular bill, and they certainly have the 218 required.
You may ask why this matters, and someone asked exactly that under Jacobs post on Blue Sky. Brittany Pettersen has missed over a month of votes because she’s not allowed to vote while in CO with her newborn. She secretly had to fly in, holding her newborn, to vote against the CR last week. It’s disgusting. I’m so glad they are more forcefully doing something about it.
I do wish though that it also included medical treatment, as Raul Grijalva (AZ-07) has cancer and hasn’t been able to get to DC since the term started, so he hasn’t been able to cast a single vote. But I’m glad at least this abomination may actually change.
And one more thing from Sara (she’s really impressive)
Rep Sara Jacobs (CA-50)
Joined a bipartisan group of Armed Services Committee members on a trip to conduct oversight of Guantanamo Bay. At least, that’s why the Democrats were there. I don’t have a complete list of who went, but, as far as I’ve seen, she has the best statement. It ends with:
It’s clear to me there is no operational reason for using Guantanamo Bay for this purpose, but rather, it was done because President Trump liked the optics and its history as a site of horrific human rights abuses. This is immoral theater on the taxpayers’ dime.
Sen Ed Markey (MA)
Spoke at the “No Kings in America! Rally for Democracy,” a couple days ago. The event was held at the Colonial Theatre in Pittsville and, at least, based on the photos, looks to be at or over capacity.
Here is a small clip from Markey’s speech
It’s important for us to have a balance. We need events that bring new people into the movement and show we are listening to Republicans and Independents and their needs, but we also need events that speak to the base and mobilize those who are feeling discouraged. This was the latter, and it sounds like they did a really great job!
Finally,
Sen Mark Kelly (AZ)
Just got back from 36 hours in Ukraine and yesterday posted all about his trip. EM immediately responded to the first part of his thread calling him a traitor, so today, he posted a video response.
The response is incredible. It shows so much strength. It’s not just in the words he’s saying, or even his tone, it’s in his stance too. He’s not to be messed with.
And that’s all I’ve got today, though I already have so many stories for tomorrow that people have been sending me in the last couple hours (thanks everyone!)
I hope that you know that the Dems are, in fact, doing the work, and that you will help spread it as far and wide as possible!
Our voice are our superpower, but only when we use them!
I’m constantly amazed how people will turn any situation into a chance to blame the Dems. I’d love to know the actionable steps the do something crowd does IRL because I would bet that the extent of their resistance is screeching on social media. We have daily proof of Democrats fighting back, using the institutions and guard rails Trump/Musk are trying to destroy. But because this crowd secretly admires Trump/Musk, they’ll only be happy with their own dictator who disregards all norms and laws. Anything less is doing nothing. This crowd is not on our side but like you said, if we keep showcasing and amplifying the wins, the message will get through. But if I was an elected dem, working my ass off every day to combat the Trump admin, I’d be telling all this jokers to fuck off already.
Thank you, Ariella
