Today is kind of a mishmash of a lot of topics, which is nice after three days of markups and more markups and more markups… and now markup doesn’t sound like a real word.
Anyway, here are some of the ways that our Dems fought back and made noise today!
Repping the Rep: John Garamendi (CA-08)
Posted a fabulous thread breaking down the Qatari plane, corruption, and why it could not be more different than the Statue of Liberty.
Yes, that is apparently an argument Republicans are making.
Democratic Daily Download: Shontel Brown (OH-11)
Breaks down the cuts to SNAP that are in DT’s “Big Beautiful Bill.” I think the fact that this is literally about six dollars a day per person is a great angle to use. It makes their obsession with getting rid of it seem incredibly petty.

Sam Liccardo (CA-16)
Introduced the “Protect our Constitution and Communities Act” along with Reps Dave Min (CA-47) and Eugene Vindman (VA-07). The bill would make it easier for individuals states and locals who have been harmed by DT to file lawsuits. And he starts introducing the bill by talking about schoolhouse rock.

Rep Veronica Escobar (TX-16)
Asked Pete Flores the acting US Customs and Border Protection Commissioner if he knew how many hours of training the military gets before working at the border. It’s not just about how illegal these abductions are, but the people involved aren’t even trained to be. Which puts everyone involved at risk.

Emanuel Cleaver (MO-05)
Said my favorite line of the day while introducing the TRUST in Congress Act with another attempt to ban congressional stock trading.
Congress is about as popular as a soiled baby’s diaper
He introduced the bill with eight Dem Reps Joe Neguse (CO-02), Mike Levin (CA-49), Jerry Nadler (NY-12), Melanie Stansbury (NM-01), Chris Deluzio (PA-17), Ilhan Omar (MN-05), and Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03).
And seven Republican Reps Chip Roy (TX-21), Young Kim (CA-40), Tim Burchett (TN-02), Rob Bresnahan (PA-08), Cory Mills (FL-07), Mark Alford (MO-04), Young Kim (CA-40),

Sen Alex Padilla (CA)
Lead the “Protecting the Future of American Democracy: The Examination of DT and Partisan Attacks on Voting and Elections” people’s hearing. He is the ranking member on the Rules Committee and he has taken on the task of killing the SAVE Act in the Senate.
And you can watch all of his comments during the hearing below.

House Ways and Means Committee Dems
Held an 18-hour markup session that ended yesterday at 8 AM on the BBB and the tax cuts it will give the ultra-wealthy. And the staff for the Dems put together the most engaging and exciting video that honestly should just become a DNC ad buy, if that can legally happen.
This video includes clips of Reps Steven Horsford (NV-04), Terri Sewell (AL-07), and Richard Neal (MA-01)

And finally…
Sen Patty Murray (WA)
Interrogated, EPA secretary, Lee Zeldin. The hearing didn’t go well for him from either side of the aisle, but Murray asked him directly “Is it woke to protect people from wildfires?” And that pretty much sums up this hearing.
You can watch her entire interrogation below.

So I hope you learned something new about who’s fighting back.
If you made it to the end of this post comment 🗽(Statue of Liberty) because that’s a comparison I hadn’t heard before
And if you watched or read at least one of the links comments 📉(graph) because Congress should not trade stocks
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
