I hope after 50501 protests today, you’re fired up and ready to go. I know I am. I’m sure other things happened, but this post is mostly focused on the electeds that joined us to protest today, with a few other things thrown in as well.
So, let’s begin!
DNC Chair Ken Martin
It’s been less than a month and this new DNC is making it very clear the 50 state strategy is back!
Ken Martin is starting with a 5 state tour and a new premise: “Get the DNC out of DC”
He’s visiting, PA, MO, IL, TX and WI to start with. In PA, he’s going to be focused on their special election coming up as well as talking directly to the steelworkers. Each state is going to have a stop that’s tailored to the needs of that state.
He told Morning Joe (which I love, cause if right leaning people watch anything on MSNBC, it’s that)
So many parts of our coalition left us this last election cycle, right? We know that. From Latino voters to working-class households, to young voters, to women. You can go down the list, the only two groups we overperformed with last election cycle were wealthy households and college-educated voters. That's a damning indictment of the Democratic Party.
I’m so excited for this new DC
Rep Seth Magaziner (RI-02) and Sen Jack Reed
Held a joint emergency press conference on the Department of Education in Rhode Island in the morning. For everyone saying you want press conferences, they’re happening, they’re just not getting the press coverage they deserve.
MD Sen Angela Alsobrooks and Reps Johnny O and Kweisi Mfume
50501 was not the only protest happening today. These three attended Baltimore’s first annual Black History Month march and protest together.
DNC Vice Chair Malcolm Kenyatta
As I hope you know, there are many elections coming up, and he’s going to spend this week highlighting some of them. The first one is, of course Josh Weil who is running for FL-06, and we are trying to flip the seat and give Republicans an even smaller majority. I honestly think we can do it.
He also attended one of the smaller protests. A kind follower sent me a photo with him at the Media PA protests today. And yes, she gave me permission to post it.
Sen Chris Van Hollen (MD)
In no surprise to anyone, Sen Van Hollen was at the Annapolis protest and, of course, he spoke. I honestly can only think of a single protest I haven’t seen him at since the protests this year started. One single protest, otherwise he has been literally everywhere. He then went on Rachel Maddow, so he had a full day.
Rep Emily Randall (WA-06)
She might have just taken other people’s posts, but it looks like she stopped by three different rallies in her district today! These were in Olympia, Port Angeles and Port Orchard.
Sen Ed Markey (MA)
And finally, Sen Markey spoke at the rally in Boston MA, and we’re lucky enough to have the video, and it’s just as inspirational as you'd expect from Markey. He flies a bit under the radar these days, but he’s one of the really good ones.
And I know for a fact because I just heard him say it on a zoom with Move On a couple hours ago, that Rep Dave Minn (CA-47) was at the one in Irvine CA.
Which means, these are just elected who posted it on their own page, but definitely not the only ones who attended.
We have fighters, but because of how the algorithm works you won’t see them if you’re not actively looking for them, unless we put in a concerted effort to make them go viral.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
