Today I got really frustrated by the “Do Something” coalition, cause it feels like they would rather scream that nothing is being done than lift up what is being done and get creative and do something themselves.
That’s why I have this series in the first place. Dems are “doing something” they just aren’t getting the attention “something” deserves. If they were, who knows, maybe people would see it who didn’t vote, and maybe they’d get involved and make sure to vote next time, which, as you know, could be tomorrow.
Rep Jahana Hayes (CT-05)
It’s that time of the week again, the “Weekly Democratic Address” came out yesterday afternoon, and this week it comes from Rep Hayes. She’s a former teacher and so her address is all about the Department of Education and what they do.
I think this is a fantastic video to send to anyone who needs to understand why it’s such an important department, and why it’s such a horrific thing for it to be dismantled.
Rep Jamie Raskin (MD-08)
Sometimes videos with members of congress do get the attention they deserve, and this is one of those rare examples.
has an incredible series where he’s been talking to various members of congress in person for the past few days. This video was released yesterday and as with everything Jamie Raskin is involved in is absolutely fabulous. He explains what he is doing and what congress is doing to fight back.
I don’t just recommend watching this, but subscribe to Brian Tyler Cohen on YouTube and make sure to watch anytime he posts. He’s one of the really good ones, and his interviews are always thoughtful and important.
Sen Elizabeth Warren (MA)
Every day or so she posts these incredible videos explaining what is going on in a very simple way, which is so important right now.
This video is about a handful of executive orders concerning the safety of women getting an abortion, even in blue states. It’s part of those midnight orders that flew under the radar and weren’t reported by many outlets, so she wanted to make sure we didn’t miss them.
My one small critique is that I wish she sourced the orders, since they flew under the radar, they’re not easy to find.
Rep Jennifer McClellan (VA-04)
I don’t think I’ve ever talked about Rep McClellan before, but now that she’s on my radar, I have no doubt you’ll be seeing a whole bunch of her in this series.
Today she went on NewsNation, which I already love because they pretend they are “unbiased” which basically means the treat DT as if he’s just another Republican president. It’s not as far right as Fox, but there still may be some casual DT supporters watching.
This is her whole interview
But I want to talk about a specific moment she chose to highlight on her own socials.
The interviewer asked her if Ukraine will have to give up territory to end the war, and she shut the question down immediately.
I do not believe you should legitimize and reward efforts of Put*n to ignore soveirgn territory.
You can argue that she was answering the question, but she was also directly calling out the interviewer for even asking such a dangerous question, and, the interviewer was kind of taken aback.
We need all Dems to respond to every single comment from an interviewer, that spreads mis and disinformation in this way.
Rep Adriano Espaillat (NY-13)
I love this a lot! He posted about how ICE and boarder patrol agents no longer have to wear body cams, which is beyond horrifying. He included a link to a Hill article and left it there. But he realized almost instantly that he didn’t include the fact that anything was being done about it, so he quoted it and added that he’s actually introducing a bill, when the House is back in session, to combat just that.
I love that he realized his mistake and corrected it. I don’t know if that’s exactly what was going through his head, but it’s certainly what’s going through mine when seeing this.
I really don’t want electeds posting the bad without giving a call to action or what they are doing about it, so the fact that he course corrected himself makes me very happy.
I hate to be a broken record, but you have to remember that the same algorithm you might deal with on social media, they deal with to. It’s on us to make them go viral, otherwise these stories don’t get the attention they deserve.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
