We have some pretty massive ways. Dems are fighting back over the next few days. A lot of these stories are things you gotta add to your calendar, which is exciting, I think.
And here they are!
Rep Rosa DeLauro (CT-03)
And the House Appropriations Dems are holding a People’s Hearing (I think it makes more sense than calling it a shadow hearing, especially because the DNC has the People’s Cabinet) on the destruction of the CDC and the public health system. I know a lot of people have complained about not knowing about these hearings in advance, well, now you do.
It’s gonna be tomorrow at 10 AM ET and you can watch on YouTube!

Rep Luz Rivas (CA-29)
Has today’s Democratic Daily Download. And it brings back her shopping trip with her mom that I included on day 87 of this series!
Yes, there are a lot of episodes about the cost of living, but that’s because the most immediate thing happening is the budget vote and maybe if it’s brought up enough enough people will contact their Republicans and four of them will flip and kill the bill.

Rep Lauren Underwood (IL-14)
Spoke at a protest in support of international students at Northern Illinois University last week and one of the most profound moments was when she detailed exactly how to contact your Republican representatives. Calls to action are always empowering, but this one is especially so. I hope this convinces some of you to do so if you have one.

Rep Becca Balint (VT)
Is leading a Free Mohsen Mahdawi Rally outside the US state department tomorrow, April 29 at 5:30 PM. She will be joined by Sen Chris Van Hollen (MD) and Reps Jamie Raskin (MD-08), Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Maxwell Frost (FL-10), Ayanna Pressley (MA-07), Nydia Velásquez (NY-07) and Maxine Dexter (OR-03)
If you are in, or can get to DC, you don’t wanna miss this!

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08)
Held his weekly press conference today all about blaming Republicans for destroying America and how they have the power to not do that.
But my favorite part was that he streamed the entire thing not just on YouTube, but on Instagram too. And there were 400 viewers who probably wouldn’t have seen it otherwise. It was really fun reading the comments watching people discover that yes, he does in fact do this every week.
I do have two critiques. First, the live needs to be made into an IG post after it ends, and second, the journalists need a mic, we can’t hear them. Hopefully, if we say these things enough, they will change.
Sen Chuck Schumer (NY)
Announced that the Senate Dems are planning to hold the floor tomorrow into the late evening. This is the sand in the gears you’ve been asking for. No work can get done while the floor is being held. And we get to hear our Dems fighting for us all day.
As usual, I’ll do my best to share all the Dems who speak as they do, so you know if your Sen participated. I’m not going to check, but I believe this is the third time they’ve done this since DT took office, but maybe the first that isn’t connected to a nomination, but, again, don’t quote me on that.
We don’t have much detail, but Schumer did mention it in his Dear Colleague letter yesterday.
On Tuesday, Senate Democrats will take to the floor to speak late into the evening against Donald Trump’s disastrous 100 days. On Wednesday, we will join with our House colleagues to decry in one voice the many ways Donald Trump has already failed our country in his second term.
And no, I have no idea what he’s saying will happen Wed. But, that happens a lot. Yes, I would love more transparency, and maybe, as a journalist, I should be on the list to get some, but I also understand why it’s not clarified publicly. We need to catch Republicans off guard as much as possible, and that means we’re not going to get a whole lot of notice when the big things happen. It sucks, but that’s how we play the game.
Rep Joe Neguse (CO-02)
Is the best at calling out Republicans. Today a Republican admitted that DT‘s temper tariffs are short term pain, and Neguse absolutely eviscerated him for thinking that was OK.
But, honestly, watch the entire 12 minute clip. He eviscerates multiple Republicans on all kinds of subjects.

And finally…
Sen Dick Durbin (IL)
Will be holding a People’s Hearing with the Senate Judiciary Dems on the pardoning of the Jan 6ers. That’s pretty much all we know so far. But more info to come, I’m sure. Be on the lookout for the link to watch that live. I suspect it will include testimony from people like Liz Oyer, so you don’t wanna miss it.
So those are some of today’s wins.
If you made it to the end of this post comment 🪑 (chair) for all those testifying in these next people’s hearings
Our voices are our superpower, but only if we use them (also if I made merch with that slogan, would you buy it?)
