To commemorate Juneteenth I am putting all the focus on our incredible Black reps. Some of these posts are about Juneteenth some of these are just them fighting back every single day, and usually I only do seven stories but it’s a holiday so it’s nine.
Repping the Rep: Kevin Mullin (CA-15)
Isn’t Black, but I didn’t post on Saturday, so I had to give him at least six days. And this post is about Juneteenth. All Democrats really made sure to honor Black History today, and I do think that’s important to acknowledge.

Rep Valerie Foushee (NC-04)
Raised concerns about AI’s effect on the environment during the Energy Subcommittee hearing in the Committee on Science Space and Technology. The hearing is called “Powering Demand: Nuclear Solutions for AI Infrastructure“
I haven’t heard this topic brought up nearly enough, so I’m so glad to hear Foushee did in this hearing.
You can watch the full hearing below!

Reps Troy Carter (LA-02) was joined by Katherine Clark (MA-05)
In New Orleans today for a round table on reproductive healthcare in red states. I can’t tell you how excited I am that the Dem House Whip is in New Orleans. Louisiana is not a red state. It is just very discouraged and ignored by the larger infrastructure, and it’s actions like this that change that.

Rep Johnathan Jackson (IL-01)
Was on MSNBC’s Way Too Early and explained in detail what happened to the last two times he tried to conduct oversight at an ICE facility.
I think it’s critical to remember that when things go right or they don’t go as wrong, we don’t hear about it, but that doesn’t mean nothing’s being done. People don’t listen when it’s not dramatic.

Rep Kweisi Mfume (MD-07)
Spoke about Juneteenth on the House floor and recited part of Langston Hughes’ “I, Too.” I got full-body chills listening to this.

Rep Shontel Brown (OH-11)
Hosted her second annual Housing Expo, and Conference. The conference is about helping more people become homeowners and helping current homeowners. Cause that’s the goal for most of us at the end of the day, to be able to afford to own a home.
Rep Steven Horsford (NV-04)
Went to immigration court in Las Vegas so that he can better understand the needs of immigrants in this terrifying time and how best to help them and introduce legislation that can give us the immigration system we so desperately need.

Rep Al Green (TX-09)
Has today’s Democratic Daily Download. And he tells the story of Juneteenth, giving special shout-outs to the Black people responsible, including the 25th Army Corps, former Texas State Rep Al Edwards and Sheila Jackson Lee.

And finally…
Rep Hank Johnson (GA-04)
Is just learning how to play electric guitar, though if he hadn’t told me, I would think he was playing for a lot longer.
And, in honor of #BlackMusicMonth, he rewrote “Hey Joe,“ popularized by Jimi Hendrix, to fit our current political times. I hope he considers actually recording this, because we need more protest songs!

I hope everyone had a meaningful Juneteenth and that you learned something new about our incredible Black Dem Reps!
If you made it to the end of this post comment with 🎸 (guitar) because I’m kind of obsessed with Johnson’s song
And if you watched or read any of the stories comment with 🫶(heart hands) cause it’s a day to celebrate the Black community, though you should be doing that every single day too.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
