As always, please remember to click on the posts themselves and amplify them. You can do this by commenting or reposting or quoting. My hope is to bring attention to their posts, but the posts themselves have to go viral for more than just my audience to see them, and that is on us.
So, without further ado, here are our Dems doing the work who definitely deserve amplifying today!
ICYMI
(Which stands for In Case You Missed It, so those of you who didn’t know don’t have to go Google it with your tail between your legs)
WTFShow
There might be other episodes of other series but those are the two I know about. This is why we need cross-posting on all platforms.
Rep Joe Neguse (CO-02)
posted today’s Democratic Daily Download. It’s all about DT’s newest attempt to completely destroy the Department of Education.
They still haven’t quite figured out the cross posting thing, but Neguse posted it on all of his socials, and they reposted him, so we’re getting there. As always, comment on the posts and let them know we need this posted on all socials not just YouTube.
Rep Mike Levin (CA-49)
Is using a March Madness bracket to get attention for DT’s illegal actions that will destroy the government and our rights as Americans.
Because this post is March Madness, it could get out of the political algorithm and into the basketball one.
And there are many people who love sports but don’t pay attention to politics that might just see this.
It’s not easy for elected’s posts to get outside the political sphere, so it’s so important to make the posts viral that have that opportunity.
This is definitely one of those.
Rep Eric Swalwell (CA-14)
Will be doing a town hall on Saturday with David Jolly in (FL-13), his old district. Jolly became an Independent after being voted out of Congress in 2016 and leaving the Republican party in 2018.
This is the second example I know of of a former Rep holding a town hall in their old district, the first being Tom Malinowski, the former rep for (NJ-07).
You can sign up on Florida Dems’ mobilize. I’m so impressed with their work, these past few weeks especially.
DNC
Have announced they are investing in FL-01 and FL-06 in everything from volunteers to poll watchers and greeters.
I ran for DNC Chair on a platform to compete in elections everywhere – in all 57 states and territories and across all 3,244 counties. This investment into the Florida congressional special elections is exactly the type of work we must do to build power on the ground and make clear to voters that there are no off years when the stakes for the American people are so high. The best way to beat back against billionaire greed is by organizing everywhere. Americans across this country don’t like Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and cowardly Republicans ripping away health care coverage in order to give billionaires more tax breaks. There’s a reason Democrats have overperformed in 11 out of the 12 special elections so far this year. In red, blue, and purple America, voters want a change – including in Florida 1 and Florida 6.
I cannot begin to tell you how excited this quote makes me. I mean it’s not even 50 states anymore, it’s 57 states and territories.
And in the positive thinking department, I’m including our two candidates with something they both did this week.
Hopeful Reps Gay Valimont (FL-01) and Josh Weil (FL06)
Both held AMAs on Reddit. Weil’s was six days ago, and Valimont’s was two. I think this is totally brilliant. If you want to know more about them, I highly recommend reading through their answers. Their answers are honest and relatable, but also clearly lay out what they are about and what they think should be done about it.
I think my favorite response from Weil is:
I think it is outrageous than an unelected South African who has not received Congressional approval or been Senate confirmed is allowed to access our nation's secure data, and to make cuts to the federal workforce. We have a House Oversight Committee for a reason, and the leadership of that committee has failed in their duties to the American people.
And from Valimont:
Politicians are using LGBT+ individuals as political punching bags, and it’s disgusting. No one should have to justify their existence just to live in peace. I fully support federal protections for LGBT+ rights, including access to healthcare, legal protections, and the right to exist without fear. At the end of the day, everyone deserves respect, dignity, and the freedom to live their life without government interference. Florida leaders love to talk about ‘freedom’ except when it comes to people and opinions they don’t like. I’m fighting to change that.
But if you have time, definitely check out more of their answers for yourself!
Four Democrats have stopped just short of calling for Schumer to step down in the past two days.
Speaker Amerita Nancy Pelosi (CA-11)
Spoke to reporters at a press conference in San Francisco flanked by Sen Adam Schiff (CA), and Reps Mike Thompson (CA-04) and Kevin Mullin (CA-15). When asked about Schumer’s decision, she said:
I myself don’t give away anything for nothing. I think that’s what happened the other day. We could have, in my view, perhaps, gotten them to agree to a third way. They may not have agreed to it, but at least the public would have seen they’re not agreeing to it — and that then they would have been shutting (the) government down.
Coming from anyone else, this might sound kind of like a wishy-washy statement, but, Pelosi doesn’t do wishy-washy. From Pelosi this is an incredibly strong statement that is just short of directly calling for Schumer to step down. And not a comment she makes lightly.
Rep Glenn Ivey (MD-04)
Said in his town hall on Tuesday “I’m afraid it might be time for the Senate Democrats to pick new leadership.” Which is probably the most forceful statement yet.
Rep Delia Ramirez (IL-03)
Nodded yes when a constituent asked if Schumer should step down or retire.
According to Ezra Levin of Indivisible, the first calls are going to come from outside the Senate, and there need to be about 10 Dem Senators on board before anything can happen. These are all one step below direct calls, and it’s going to take direct calls.
But, it’s also worth noting that we have heard a pretty strong statement from one senator so far this week.
Sen Michael Bennet (CO)
Said in his town hall:
And in dodging your question, let me just say it's important for people to know when it's time to go. We're going to have conversations, I'm sure, in the foreseeable future, about all the Democratic leadership.
Of all the statements, because he’s a senator, this one probably matters the most, but we love all our Dems who are willing to make noise about this already!
Sorry this was so long, there was a lot to cover.
But I hope you stayed till the end and you got something out of this. My favorite story by far is Mike Levin’s, March madness bracket, so comment 🏀 if you’ve reached the end of this post. And let me know what your favorite story is.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
Best takeaway for me (we are looking for different messages to help our narrative and sanity)...I shared this with a couple private groups... thanks
Hidden in Ariella Lum's Substack update is the first Senator to go on the record about Schumer (more or less)
I have been following the slow burn of Pelosi's comments from Tues.
Sen Michael Bennet (CO)
Said in his town hall:
And in dodging your question, let me just say it's important for people to know when it's time to go. We're going to have conversations, I'm sure, in the foreseeable future, about all the Democratic leadership.
Bennet's my senator too. Good to see him be stand-up!
