I hope you’re feeling better after yesterday. That you’ve watched Sen Chris Murphy’s (CT) live and understand our marching orders.
If you haven’t, go watch that first and then come back.
Here are today’s fighters ( and one story I wanted to highlight from earlier this week)
DNC Co-Vice Chairs Malcolm Kenyatta and David Hogg
Are joining Dem Candidate for FL-06, Josh Weil at one of his many events this week! Weil is also doing town halls, and I’m so glad that our candidates are doing town halls just like our current and former electeds! And I’m equally as excited to see our DNC represented!
I think I need to stop with the exclamation points…
Rep Lateefah Simon (CA-12)
Compared our current asylum and immigration systems to the WWII Japanese internment camps in a House Oversight Committee hearing this week.
I suspect this hasn’t gone viral because she’s not screaming, but that doesn’t mean she’s not incredibly forceful.
This is a must watch!
Rep Sam Liccardo (CA-16)
Posted about a part of the Blank Check for Elon bill that you might not have heard about. Though, if you watch Rachel Maddow nightly, you did.
Basically, Republicans gave up their right to stop DT’s tariffs, because they don’t want to have it on record that they voted to raise costs on their constituents.
I think he does a great job explaining it. I love Rachel, but I appreciate how this is far less long winded, which is necessary for some people.
DNC Chair Ken Martin
Announced, while he was running, that if he won, the DNC would no longer be working with the DC consultants.
I think most of us didn’t know about it because there was a very broad mentality of “Ben Wikler or bust”
But, now that we’re paying attention, and he is actually the chair, Salon gave a bit of an update on how that’s going last week.
They spoke with DNC national deputy communication director, Abhi Rahman:
As DNC Chair, Ken Martin and his team will be going through every contract, line by line. There’s one criteria — are they helping us win elections and rebuild our credibility with working families?
It sounds like this new DNC will be focusing on partnering with grassroots groups and especially organizations local to the places they are targeting (which, as Ken said a few weeks ago is literally 3,244 counties, aka every county in the country)
OR Dem Reps Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01) Maxine Dexter (OR-03) Janelle Bynum (OR-05) Andrea Salinas (OR-06)
Went on KGW’s “Straight Talk” to discuss the constitutional crisis. Unfortunately, Val Hoyle (OR-04) couldn’t be there, but it’s incredible to all 4 of the 5 Oregon Reps in the room and for all of them to be women!
This is one of my favorite things about recess. Reps get to do interviews and town halls and other things together!
Rep Becca Balint (VT)
Went on Katie Phang this morning to discuss her utter disgust with Chuck Schumer. She wouldn’t outright say he should step down, but she did say, it’s up to NYers making their voices heard. She explains that no elected official is owed their seat, these are our representatives. We can’t all go to Congress, so they are, basically, supposed to do it on our behalf. And Schumer didn’t do that yesterday.
Good news it’s recess and all electeds should be back in their districts and states. Great time to make our voices heard!
It is also on the Senators. I suspect the House will release some sort of statement, though I can’t guarantee that, but in the meantime, most members who want to say it are just waiting for that go ahead and speaking a bit in code in the meantime.
And finally,
Sen Patty Murray (WA)
Has been sharing testimonies from federal workers in Washington state for weeks now. Today’s testimony is by far the most impactful.
Shawn works at the VA, and they had to lay off 60% of their mental health staff who work directly in suicide prevention.
I love days that I can introduce you to people you might not know through this series! We need to be lifting up as many of our incredible electeds as we possibly can!
Our voices are superpower, but only when we use them!
And in Hungary too:
