Daily Dems Doing the Work, Making Noise and Fighting Back Day 46

It’s the Jewish Holiday of Purim from sundown tonight until sundown tomorrow. It’s a holiday that’s eerily similar to exactly what we’re going through right now with EM playing the character of Haman the evil advisor to the king.

Esther and her uncle Mordechai hide their Jewish identity and destroy the plot to kill all Jews in Shushan. (very simplistic version of a very complicated story, but I digress)

So today, although we don’t want anyone to hide their democratic identity when fighting for us, let’s celebrate those who are working to end the plot to destroy democracy!

Our House Dems are on a retreat. They are getting to know each other and get to connect in a way that will hopefully lead to more unity as the forceful opposition.

And it looks good so far. Five Caucuses have held press conferences today from the retreat. They are all saying the same thing, but focusing on the needs of their own caucus specifically. The underlying message is: the Republicans are destroying everything we care about and we must stop it.

I don’t expect you to listen to all of these press conferences in full, though you can put it in 2x speed, which would make that more doable. But, at least, listen to one or two of the speeches per video. I’m posting clips, but click the caucus name for the full videos.

Rep Sarah McBride (DE) totally destroys the republicans and their weird obsession with her gender.

Not my favorite speech but the only one on YouTube, Rep Jim Costa (CA-21) speaking about the threat against immigrants.

Someone actually put their whole press conference on YouTube. I wish that had been true for all the others.

I can’t find a clip, so you just have to go with the C-SPAN link, which again, is in the caucus name.

And I know what some of you were gonna say because I’ve heard it already today. Yes, I do think it’s worth doing this many press conferences, because each one speaks to a different group of people. This way, a Black publication will be covering what was said at the Black caucus, and a Hispanic publication covering the Hispanic caucus, etc. If it was all together, they wouldn’t be covering it at all.

They are all giving the same message, but in a way that directly focuses on their audience and I think that’s outstanding

This wasn’t the only messaging that the House has done since the start of the retreat. As we learned yesterday, every Wed, Thurs and Fri, they put on the WTFShow. I covered one of yesterday’s conversations but I wanted to highlight the other two as well.

Reps Gregory Meeks (NY-05) and Troy Carter (LA-02)

I love this! These are two Dems we don’t see on social media a whole lot. I think the more attention we put on ALL our Dems, the better. I mean, with 213 Dems, there are a lot who just don’t get enough exposure. I love what this project does to change that. But, for it to work, we need to be spreading the word about this series.

Has been talking about it at every meeting I’ve been in and in every interview he’s had , but he has finally put out the Freedom of Information Act request form for all of us to fill out. We have the legal right to know what is happening with our information. So make sure to follow the instructions
