Oh my God, what a memorable day it was. The estimates are over 3 million 5 Million, the number changed before I finished editing this. Protesters nationwide in every single corner of the country. I feel so inspired right now.
Here are some of today’s fighters!
Repping the Rep: Chris Pappas (NH-01)
Is running for NH Senate, and it’s a little unconventional for this series, but, it’s my first day of highlighting him, so I had to.
He and his husband posted a video making fun of former NH Gov Chris Sanunu’s reaction to his candidacy. Sanunu will probably be his Republican opponent, and decided that the most notable part of Pappas’ campaign is that he doesn’t like his hair...
Yes, that’s right, his hair. Well, this makes the first round of merch real easy.
Reps Lou Correa (CA-46), Chuy Garcia (IL-04), Adriano Espillat (NY-13)
Started their podcast “Tu Caucus” yesterday. Hopefully, the podcast will make Hispanic men feel comfortable in the Dem party again, after voting for DT in large numbers last year.
It’s really smart. This is why the caucuses are so important. All communities are different and it’s important for each caucus to be able to talk directly to their community.
The first episode is about how these three men got here. How they grew up and how that led them to Congress.
As of my writing this, only 70 189 people have watched the first episode. We can increase that, right?
And, if you don’t have time to watch the whole thing, though it’s only 30 minutes, at least watch the trailer.
Rep Sydney Kamlager Dove (CA-37)
Posted today’s “Is This Shit Legal” with guests Reps Eric Swalwell (CA-10) and Jill Tokuda (HI-02). She asked Swalwell if a third term is legal (no way in hell) and Tokuda if firing federal agriculture employees is legal (of course not). And, I didn’t even know about that second one happening.
This series is one of my favorites, and it doesn’t get nearly the attention it deserves. It’s sassy, but also informative and that’s a big part of what we need right now.
Rep Jimmy Gomez (CA-34)
Went on another grocery shopping trip with his adorable son. This time it’s more about the massive taxes on American families than his shopping trip, but it’s still a great video. There’s just something so honest and authentic about hearing him talk about rising grocery prices while very clearly being affected by them himself.
Most people think all Members of Congress are rich. He makes it very clear, based on what he’s buying, that he is 100% not one of them.
There’s nothing performative about this series.
Rep Greg Casar (TX-35)
FaceTimed with a constituent named Eric who talked about the importance of Medicaid in his life. It’s not just about his medical bills, but what he’s able to do as a result of not having to worry about them.
He uses specifics like his love of birding, and I don’t think most people who don’t need Medicaid truly understand how much of someone’s daily life relies on it. I hope Casar does more of these with more constituents.
I love the electeds who just let their constituents give testemonials, but there’s something about seeing the conversation that is quite powerful too.
Senate Dems
Were on the floor until well after midnight fighting against the Republican budget reconciliation plan during Vote-a-Rama.
And still, many of them came out to Hands Off. Some stayed in DC, but some even went back to their states and joined protests there, and not just the close states either.
This list is in no way exhaustive, please add posts of your senator to the thread!
House Dems
Were there too. In fact, I’m not sure there are more than a handful that didn’t show up at some Hands Off protest somewhere in the country.
Some of them spoke, some of them even helped organize the protest, some were right up front, and some felt that this day is for constituents and stayed in the back holding their own sign. However they participated, we are so grateful they felt this was something they needed to do.
Please check your rep’s social media, I bet you they were there, so add their post to the thread!
Sen Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE)
Was close to tears when she talked about our Republican Senators, refusing to protect anything last night. I know there are a lot of people that think that our Senators don’t really care, or that they secretly support what the Republicans are doing, so, if for any reason that’s you, make sure you watch this one.
DNC and Sen Elizabeth Warren (MA)
Are in Nashville as part of The People’s Town Hall, because, of course, Tennesee Senators certainly aren’t showing up to meet with constituents, so Warren is instead. This is one of many People’s Town Halls hosted by the DNC across the country. Keep this page bookmarked and look at it every few days so you don’t miss them when a town hall is in your area.
And those are just some of today’s fighters.
I hope you are so encouraged and inspired and that you never forget the incredible people we have fighting for and with us
If you’re still here, comment 🚫 cause the protests were amazing, and they’re only gonna getting bigger.
Our voices are a superpower, but ONLY when we use them!
We had massive crowds today at the capitol in Phoenix. I heard Tucson had thousands. And several smaller events were organized around Phoenix in Tempe, Mesa, and Scottsdale. Maybe more. It was a great day for Democracy!
🚫 Thousands out in Oregon today!
