Hi, can you believe I’ve been doing this series for 30 DAYS???
Anyway, today was a day of incredible Democratic unity, and we must celebrate that. At the end of the day, that’s the biggest win of them all.
Rep Teresa Leger Fernandez (NM-03)
Challenged the Republican Budget Committee Chair in the most epic way possible yesterday, by asking him if pregnant women, who are on Medicaid, are parasites. He was so flabbergasted, and she successfully backed him into a corner.
Unfortunately not many people have seen this amazing video, as it only has 114 views.
Congressional Progressive Caucus
Were very busy today. They went pretty much straight from the budget bill protest on the Capitol steps to their own “Tax the Greedy Billionaires” rally. The video is an hour, but at least watch some of the speeches.
Sadly only 217 people have even seen the live existed at all.
Reps Pete Aguilar (CA-33), Ted Lieu (CA-36), Veronica Escobar (TX-16) and Brenden Boyle (PA-02)
Every week, the House Democrats have a press conference. I know, you’re probably surprised since you hear from everyone that they never have them. Today’s was, of course, about the budget bill.
And you didn’t know about it cause the video has a whopping 457 views.
House Democrats
I hope by now you know that the House Democrats held an incredible press conference on the steps of the Capitol. Hakeem Jeffries may not have sounded alarmed enough on The Rachel Maddow Show last night, but he absolutely did today. And we also heard speeches from three incredible women who need Medicare and Medicaid to keep them and their families alive.
Take the time to watch this whole video, It’s less than half an hour.
I wish it had at least 100k views, but I’m thrilled to say it’s, at least, at 8.5k.
I also wanna shout out all the Democrats who made videos themselves about why they were voting no. There are a lot of videos in this thread from electeds that I have not seen post much on social media, so I’m very excited that they clearly understood what needed to be done today. Both, with the vote itself, and with the messaging.
Rep Sam Liccardo (CA-16)
Has joined the Rapid Response Task Force. He was interviewed by KRON4 TV and explained some of what they’re doing in the task force. I think it gives a lot of the specifics we have been waiting for.
Rep Mike Levin (CA-49)
For the second time in two days Mike Levin has posted a video using a blackboard. This video is about what EM and DT are doing to the VA. I really like this formatting. I think, with time, it can get the traction he deserves. It really is a very digestible way to explain complex info.
Sen Ben Ray Lujan (NM)
Shared the news that the Missing or Murdered Indigeous Women government website has been shut down, but he didn’t leave it with bad news, he also shared resources to find the info elsewhere.
Usually content like this doesn’t go over well, but today was different.
Today was a really hectic day and that means a lot of us missed things we wouldn’t usually miss. Typically, comments, on posts like this, read “I know already, why don’t you do something useful?” But not this time, because most people don’t know.
Sen Elissa Slotkin (MI)
There are probably many people who wonder why Elissa Slotkin spent her weekend in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, well, in a Homeland Security and Government Affairs Hearing today, she used what she learned while on that trip to counter explain why losing Medicare and Medicaid couldn’t be less partisan, at least as far as voters are concerned.
She wouldn’t have been able to make the argument like this if she hadn’t bene up there this weekend.
And, the post went viral on Threads, though, as you can see, it didn’t get the same attention on Blue Sky.
Sen Patty Murray (WA)
However, went viral in both places, which is very exciting! She has been posting stories of her federal worker constituents who have been fired. Today’s story comes from Raphael, a disabled army vet who worked for the Seattle VA.
The story clearly resonates given how viral the post went. I hope she continues this incredibly important and moving series!
So I hope that these stories remind you that the Democrats are fighting, and today the House Democrats showed they are more united than ever.
Let’s make sure to support our fighters.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
