For all those who say “talk is cheap” or “why aren’t you doing something?” Cory Booker talked. Protest and activism are by definition performative. You are performing so you get attention for your cause, so more people know about it. You are performing to disrupt.
So yes, we need to amplify our talkers because often times, that’s the most powerful way to fight
Repping the Rep: Kathy Castor (FL-14)
spoke at Cafe Con Tampa a community event that takes place at a coffeehouse for residents to ask questions to their local and federal politicians.
She spoke a lot about what Biden‘s laws would have done, and are now not going to do, given that all the incredible progress he made was dismanteled. I think is a great way to show what’s really going on, and get people, who might not be otherwise, rightfully pissed off.
Reps Frank Pallone (NJ-06) and Rob Mendendez (NJ-08)
Interviewed each other for today’s WTFShow. The conversation was all about Medicaid and how New Jersey specifically will be affected by the cuts.
One thing I love so much about this series is that, for the people paying attention, it introduces them to reps they probably wouldn’t know about otherwise.
Rep Suzan DelBene (WA-01)
Has today’s Democratic Daily Download. She spoke about yesterday being “DTs tax day“ and how we need to use language like “this is a massive tax increase on American families.” The word “tariff” doesn’t mean a whole lot to the average American, but massive tax increase does.
Language matters so much right now, and arguably, one of the reasons DT won was because of his simplistic language. So I love that our side is starting to flip the script on that a bit.
Rep Gregory Meeks (NY-05)
has announced plans to file a discharge petition to force a vote on terminating DT’s tariffs. This would force Republicans to vote in favor or against them, putting their choice on record, something they took drastic measures to avoid during Meek’s first attempt at getting them to vote on the taxes.
That first attempt resulted in Republicans deciding that the entire rest of the session is considered one day. That means, even though they have 14 days to decide if the national emergency ends, that day never comes.
I love that he’s trying again, and I suspect he will keep trying until DT’s massive tax increases are gone.
Rep Mike Levin (CA-49)
posted an incredible video on the history of tariffs and what it will likely mean for our future. And if you don’t want to google, here’s more about Smoot-Hawley.
If you’re not following him on both his campaign and his government accounts, on all platforms, you should do so immediately. I don’t post him every day, but I so easily could.
Rep Jennifer McClellan (VA-04)
Said it best during the Dem Women’s Caucus press conference today. The SAVE Act is a poll tax and that is the only language we should be using to describe it. And if you want stats, she has those too. She has a complete breakdown of how much this will cost the average person.
Also, this entire press conference is well worth a watch. We have some incredible women representing us.
Rep Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03)
Posted a video about how DT is going after preschoolers. The attacks on Head Start have gone mostly under the radar, so I’m really glad she’s bringing attention to them.
Rep Sydney Kamlager Dove (CA-37)
Asks Jasmine Burton (Fine$quire) about the tariffs and what they mean. And how, yes there is a good chance they lead to a second Great Depression. (I don’t mean to scare you, but rather make you angry)
I love all these different takes on the same topic. Each one resonates with different people and hopefully with all these different styles, enough people get informed and mad, and therefore engaged.
And Finally…
Sen Adam Schiff (CA) and Rep Jamie Raskin (MD-08)
Will be holding a shadow hearing on Monday on DT’s attacks on the rule of law. It sounds like this isn’t about one topic, this is about everything.
Given that, and the fact that this is bicameral (with both house and Senate) this sounds like a pretty huge deal. And I will give you more updates as I have them.
What I do know, you should set aside time on Monday afternoon to watch this.
And those are just a small handful of today’s fighters. Remember their power comes from us amplifying their message, so please engage with their content.
If you made it this far, please comment with 💸 because, thanks to DT’s Massive Tax Increase, our money will be flying away.
Our voices are superpower, but only when we use them!
