Happy Save Social Security Day of Action! These Days of Action are a chance for our electeds to spread a unified message all day long. However, today is alittle more complicated. There’s a constitutional crisis happening, as we speak, so our electeds couldn’t only focus on Social Security.
That said, they’re really good at juggling, so we have stories on both.
Repping the Rep: Terri Sewell (AL-07)
Held her “Terri Talks: Community in Conversation” with former Social Security Administration Commissioner and current People’s Cabinet SSA spokesperson Martin O’Malley
It’s only half an hour, so take the time to watch the full conversation, if you can
Rep Lois Frankel (FL-22)
Has today’s Democratic Daily Download, and, of course, it’s about Save Social Security Day of Action. The Administration isn’t just gonna stop sending out Social Security checks, they’re just gonna dismantle the department from the inside out. And we need to understand and spread how dangerous that is.
And, if you’re not clear on what Frankel means,
Rep Melanie Stansbury (NM-01)
Went to her local Social Security call center and wasn’t allowed in. Because, as of this week, no one wh works for Social Security is allowed to talk to our elected officials and tell them what’s going on.
And our Dems will not let that stand.
Our Dems at large
All participated in today’s Day of Action, not just these 3. I created threads on both Threads and Blue Sky for you to add what your electeds said about Social Security today. We have over 250 federally elected Dems, but there’s only 3 comments on the Blue Sky thread, and 30 on the Threads.
So take a minute to go to your Dems’ accounts and see what they posted, and add it to the thread. Wouldn’t it be cool to have all of the Day of Action in one place?
Sen Tammy Duckworth (IL)
Was interviewed by Chicago Mag. You’re gonna wanna read this. Especially to hear what she had to say about 10 of her fellow senators voting for cloture for the CR…did I make it intriguing enough?
Rep Mark DeSaulnier (CA-10)
Is hosting an Immigration town hall and resource fair tomorrow. I love the idea of several town halls, each one being dedicated to a different subject, since there is so much to cover on each individual subject. Not to mention, immigration matters now more than ever.
And now we’ve reached the Kilmar Abrego Garcia, “What are they doing to bring him home?” section.
Rep Ritchie Torres (NY-15)
Is introducing the Repatriation of Expelled Sovereign Citizens and Unjustly Exiled (RESCUE) Act. I think that’s fairly self explanatory, but he also explained it to Wolf Blitzer on CNN this morning.
And then we have the group that is planning on going to El Salvador. We do not know everyone who is thinking about it, especially in the house. I don’t like using Axios, but this is a really good article to explain the process. And it includes the only mention of Sen Cory Booker (NJ) working on going.
Sen Chris Van Hollen (MD)
Has announced he is leaving for El Salvador tomorrow morning. I don’t know who is going with him, but he’s incredibly smart, so I do not expect that he’s going alone.
He made the announcement at the town hall with Rep April McClain Delaney (MD-06) tonight.
It’s really important to note he might not get in. That does not mean that he somehow didn’t do the work.
We know for sure that….
Reps Maxwell Frost (FL-10) and Robert Garcia (CA-42)
Have sent a letter to James Comer, the Republican who has to sign off on allowing a congressional delegation to be sent to CECOT. Without that delegation, they would going kind of as private citizens.
That doesn’t mean they won’t go if they get a no, but it becomes infinitely more complicated. And remember, the House and Senate are governed by different rules, so just because Van Hollen is going, doesn’t mean Frost and Garcia can.
Finally….
Rep Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03)
Has also said she’s prepared to go
This is one of those situations that were not gonna know more until we know more. I mean Van Hollen’s announcement that he’s going tomorrow morning happened in the middle of his town hall. I will keep you posted as we know more.
If anyone doesn’t consider this doing the work, they are not serious and will never support the Dems no matter what they do.
If you made it to the end, comment ✈️ (plane) cause our Dems are gonna do everything they can to bring him home
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them
Thanks for these updates! What a day! I know this clip is from a Republican's town hall, Sen. Grassley, but these loud voices of democracy are inspiring!
