I know all eyes are on LA, but please take a second to shift your eyes to our incredible Democrats fighting in LA and around the country.
Here are some of my favorite fighters from today! Who are yours?
Repping the Rep Eric Sorensen (IL-17)
Joined Dem Reps Jared Moskowitz (FL-23), and Jimmy Panetta (CA-19), and Republican Reps Frank Lucas (OK-03) and Mike Flood (NE-01) in introducing the “Weather Workforce Improvement Act“ which will “grant the national weather service, temporary direct hiring authority” over positions that have to do with imminent natural disasters.
In a statement he said:
Severe weather affects both blue states and red states, and ensuring Americans have access to reliable and accurate weather forecasting is something everyone should support regardless of their political affiliation. Right now, critical staffing shortages at National Weather Service offices across the country are jeopardizing lives as the agency has no choice but to scale back essential forecasting operations. I’m grateful for Congressman Flood’s partnership on bipartisan legislation that will help fully staff National Weather Service offices across the country during severe weather and hurricane season
As a meteorologist, he knows the importance of the NWS more than most.
Rep Kelly Morrison (MN-03)
And Dem Rep Doris Matsui (CA-07) along with Republican Reps, Mike Lawler (NY-17) and Ben Cline (VA-06) re-introduced The Adina Act. This is personal to me. This bill will require the top allergens to be labeled on meds and as a celiac I can rarely get the medication I need because I don’t know if it’s gluten-free or not. This bill becoming law would quite literally change my life. It has been introduced every session since 2012. Let this be the year. It finally passes!

Reps Judy Chu (CA-28), Gil Cisneros (CA-31) and Derek Tran (CA-45)
Went with CHIRLA and ACLU SoCal to conduct oversight at the Adelanto ICE facility, and they literally locked the gate on them.
Rep Chu posted a video showing the locked gate

Rep Chris Deluzio (PA-17)
Posted a video standing next to the printout of the plaque, honoring the Capitol police during Jan 6 that is taped outside Rep Joe Morelle’s (NY-25) door, because Johnson still refuses to follow the law and put the plaque in the Capitol where it belongs, and with everything happening in LA today, this matters even more.

Rep Shelia Cherfilus-McCormick (FL-20)
Went on CNN to talk about the Haitian travel ban and DT rescinding their temporary protective status while also saying Haiti is one of the most dangerous countries to be in in the world right now. This type of hypocrisy is one of our strongest arguments.

Rep Gwen Moore (WI-04)
Finally got to meet with Ramon Morales Reyes, her constituent who is held in ICE detention for a false accusation of threatening DT.
This is after she and Rep Mark Pocan (WI-02) conducted oversight at the facility last week. This is the power of those oversight visits, and the attention they can get on social media.

And finally…
Rep (CA-14)
Hosted “Hike with Your Rep” and a bunch of constituents joined him on a hike around Lake Chabot to share their fears and concerns. Of course, one of the biggest ones this weekend is ICE.
Town halls are great, but something like this is far more personal. I don’t know how you can go on a hike with your representative and not feel like you personally are being heard and that’s really powerful.

And those are a small handful of today’s fighters. I hope you are looking for fighters too.
If you made it to the end of this post comment with 🔐(lock, and key) because ICE could open that gate at any time they are choosing not to let electeds do their job.
And if you watched or read any of these stories comment with 🥾 (hiking boot) because it’s important to celebrate an amplify creative thinking, and hiking with your constituents is incredibly creative
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
great piece so sharing...
