Today is a little different. Last night Republicans put out their full budget bill and so right now we are in educate and run-out-the-clock mode. Most of these stories are in order of where they are in the process. So if you don’t always read the whole post today is the day when you’re gonna want to.
Let’s begin
Repping the Rep: John Garamendi (CA-08)
Was at his local Hands Off Medicaid and Social Security Fally in Fairfield California on May 1 and earlier this week a videographer put together a video of the event. It’s such a good video and Garamendi’s interview is great.
And no, this isn’t related to the rest of this post, but Repping the Rep is a daily segment, so I had to include him.

Rep Maxine Dexter (OR-03)
Participated in a 14-hour markup in the Natural Resources Committee last week.
What is a markup you ask? Dexter has your answer. She posted this must-watch video breaking down exactly what a markup is and why it is fighting back. If you only watch one video from this newsletter, make it this one. And save it to send to anyone who says Dems aren’t doing anything.

Rep Kathy Castor (FL-14)
Posted a video announcing the bill. In the dead of night Republicans “dropped” the bill meaning the full bill has been unveiled, it is no longer a blueprint, and the cuts are no longer hypothetical. The hearings and markups start now. And, thanks to Rep Dexter, you now know what the second half of that sentence means.

Rep Frank Pallone (NJ-06)
Is the ranking member on the Energy and Commerce Committee, which is the first committee to have a hearing. This is the committee that will be deciding the cuts to Medicaid and healthcare in general. we want this hearing to be as long as possible. Pallone has today’s Democratic Daily Download.

Rep Gwen Moore (WI-04)
Posted about her committee’s next step. She is on the Ways and Means Committee and they will be marking up the entire tax plan starting tomorrow. Hopefully, some Republicans will get their heads on straight and realize that the amendments the Democrats are proposing are vital for their chance to be reelected. The goal is for this markup to go as long as possible, we’re talking into the night and maybe through to Wednesday.
Rep Greg Landsman (OH-01)
Is on the Energy and Commerce so he will be part of tomorrow’s hearing that also hopefully goes into Wednesday. But he posted an incredible thread with seven things that will happen if the Medicaid cuts are successful. Each one is more horrifying than the last.
And it is on us to spread the word about every single one of them.

Finally, to lighten the mood a bit…
Rep Sydney Kamlager Dove (CA-37)
Has a new “Is This Sh*t Legal?” And it is with Rep Becca Balint (VT) all about our win against the illegality of Mohsen Mahdawi’s imprisonment, who has now been released on bail. It’s not legal and DT’s not getting away with it and that’s a really big deal.

So I hope you understand the next steps in this budget fight a little better.
Both emojis are gonna be about what happens if Medicaid is cut.
If you made it to the end of this video comment 🏥(hospital) because many of them will have to close.
And if you watched at least one video or read one of the threads comment 💊 (pill) because many people won’t be able to get the drugs they need to survive.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
I'm not surprised that the GOP have defaulted back to their "do it in the dead of night and hope nobody notices." Routine. That problem is that they know it's unpopular, and if they go through with it with zero Dem/indie support...they're just done in 2026, and the Democrats will let people know about it. Also this smash-n-grab was to make sure that the hyper rich keep tax breaks that were to expire this year.
