Today sucked, like really sucked, like sucked more than any other day since I started this series has sucked.
But we learned that there are 249 Democrats in federal office who will risk everything to fight for us.
And here are a handful of them
Rep Pramila Jayapal (WA-07)
Has a series, I don’t know if it’s new or not, but it’s certainly my first time seeing it, where she shares three bad things and three good things that happened this week.
It will definitely help me stay engaged, organizing, fighting and resisting, maybe it will do the same for you too.
I will definitely keep my eyes peeled for this series weekly, and will try to include it in this series, often, as well.
Reps Jayapal, Jamie Raskin (MD-08), Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-05)
Are leading over 100 House Dems in a letter demanding answers into Mahmoud Khalil’s arrest.
Please don’t get mad at your rep if you don’t see their name. I spoke with a staffer this week, and they said that you either walk door to door or send the email to the people you speak to the most. So, if your rep isn’t there, it very well could mean they don’t even know about the letter.
If you see a letter that you really want them to sign onto, call them and tell them.
DNC, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and the Association of State Dem Parties
Are partnering together for “The People’s Town Hall” they are going to Red districts in all 50 states! It’s starting with nine districts, with more added soon.
I cannot express how excited this makes me, especially with the committees that are involved.
The WTFShow, which is a conversation between two Dem reps every Wed Thurs and Fri for the first hundred days, posted two more episodes.
Reps Ted Lieu (CA-37) and Yassmin Ansari (AZ-03)
Spoke yesterday at the House Dem retreat.
Reps Debbie Dingle (MI-06), Steny Hoyer (MD-05)
Spoke today.
I will say the video quality is god-awful, but we need to be lifting these up as much as possible (and maybe let them know that they need a better camera.)
Sen Adam Schiff (CA)
Posted on Substack about why today is such a dark day, but also included how it will take more than just the Dems in Congress for us to successfully fight back. It’s not exactly hopeful, but, it’s actionable. Even the part about the media.
See if your local media has been standing up, and if not, maybe write a letter to the editor. And if they have, thank them, and tell them you have their back.
And finally,
Sen Chris Van Hollen (MD)
Posted six videos today to be as transparent as possible. A lot of Senators and members of Congress did incredible things, but I was just stunned watching Van Hollen post video after video making sure we understood as much as we could
He started by reminding us that he was a “hell no“ on the slush fund and cloture:
Then he reiterated it as he headed to the floor:
He then posted that, even once cloture had been passed, he was offering up an amendment that said that no monies could be used for illegal operations:
And the video of him offering up this amendment:
When that didn’t work, he brought a new bill to the floor that would protect DC’s ability to use its own money:
And finally, he posted a video of him introducing the bill. I wish more elected officials were as transparent as Van Hollen:
For the record, the bill did pass the Senate, and now it goes to the House where hopefully they will support it.
Please comment with your favorite fighters from today, because there are a whole lot. And they are not backing down for anything. It is our job to support them as much as possible so they have as much room to fight as hard as they can.
Our voices are super, but only when we use them!
It’s my kick-ass Rep. Debbie Dingell.
Yesterday was tough. I understand the reasons behind voting for the bill even if I disagree. Like others have said, there were no good options. Schumer’s communication throughout the last few days though…he left Jeffries hanging and I’m concerned about the working relationship between the house and senate now. Regardless, we should be proud of the vast majority of Democrats that didn’t want to give an inch on that bill.
