A lot happened today, and even though the day ended with the outcome we expected, but hoped would magically be avoided (Vought being confirmed) our Senate Dems made it much more of a pain to do so.
So here’s today’s fighters!
Senate Dems
They continued their 30 hour post-cloture debate until the very last second. Unfortunately I don’t have a list of everyone who spoke (I stopped keeping track a few hours in, regretting that now) PBS still has about 11 hours of it up. I hope we see this type of debate for all remaining nominees.
Senate Judiciary Dems
They successfully delayed Kash Patel’s committee vote, saying that they didn’t receive all relevant information. This is the kind of delaying tactics we need to see for everything all the time!
Rep Haley Stevens (MI-11) and Rep Sean Casten (IL-06)
Led House Dems in introducing the Taxpayer Data Protection Act. Keep in mind, even if something like this doesn’t pass, and it probably won’t, it is on record that we tried and that they voted it down, which has a huge impact when it comes to those Republicans wanting to get elected again, and not supporting bills like this are in ads against them.
Rep Sean Casten (IL-06)
He gets a section all his own cause he led 154 Dems in a letter to the Treasury Dept demanding answers on Musk’s access.
Rep Becca Balint (VT)
Took time to share two things DT is doing that the media might not have covered. And that’s not necessarily the media’s fault. DT’s flood the zone system means things are going to be missed.
Sen Tammy Duckworth (IL)
It took a while, but thanks to YOUR calls, she has finally said she won’t vote to confirm any more of DT’s high-level noms until Musk and DT stop their illegal power grab. So, given how things are going, she means never, so if she’s your Senator, you need to make sure to hold her to that.
Sen Ed Markey (MA)
He co-hosted a rally in front of the EPA with Climate Action Campaign. There were 7 elected speakers and 9 from organizations.
Reverand Lennox Yearwood from Hip Hop Caucus - 0:17-2:53
Sen Ed Markey (MA) 2:58-11:12
Rep Jerry Nadler (NY-12) 11:21-12:59
Rep Paul Tonko (NY-20) 13:05-16:00
Rep Yassmin Ansari (AZ-03) 16:09-18:44
Rep Luz Rivas (CA-29) 18:51-20:39
Rep Maxine Dexter (OR-03) 20:47-22:54
Rep Melanie Stansbury (NM-01) 23:06-25:03
Margie Alt from Climate Action Campaign 25:31-29:39
Eric Bunn of AFGE 29:54-32:49
Leslie Fields of WE ACT for Environmental Justice 33:03-36:21
Saul Levin of Green New Deal Network 36:34-39:07
Markey announces Musk’s flying monkeys refuse to meet with them 39:24-41:00
Gretchen Goldman of the Union of Concerned Scientists 41:09-44:37
Leslie Tunn of National Council of Churches 45:06-50:34
Stephanie Reese of Mom’s Clean Air Force 50:51-55:01
Matt Tejada from NRDC 55:40-1:00:35
They then tried entering the EPA building and meeting with DOGE, but were denied. But the good news is, they filmed the whole thing.
Unfortunately, this rally didn’t get nearly as much attention as the rallies that have been held in previous days. If you live in the DMV, please consider finding out when the next rally is and attending as many of them as possible. These rallies have the most power when they get the most attention possible!
Rep Maxine Dexter (OR-03)
She went live. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like she saved her live. I watched some of it and it was really great and informative, but she only had about 20 viewers at a time. This is why it is so important to follow all Dem elected officials on all platforms. I hope next time she goes live, she saves it to her profile.
Oh and one last note
Rep Greg Stanton (AZ-04), Rep Gabe Amo (RI-01) and Rep Joe Neguse (CO-02)
All three of these Reps have posted photos in the last 24 hours showing that they have been answering some of the thousands of calls themselves. This is phenomenal to see, and I hope we see more and more of it as the days go on.
Please remember that all this fighting back would not be happening without all of us. This is the proof that our calls have impact. So keep calling, keep showing up in person, and keep being loud every single time you can. We WILL get through this if we stay united and keep the pressure on.
Your voice is your superpower, but only WHEN you use it.
