There are some stories today that didn’t happen today, but they were publicized today. So it’s a really important reminder that on days you think don’t have many wins to remember that things might be happening that we don’t hear about till later. Often times the elected and their staff are just too busy on the day of the event.
With that said, let’s get to it.
Rep Maxine Dexter (OR-03)
She introduced the “Stop Musk Act” Wed, but only publicly announced it today. It reads:
To prohibit retaliation against any Federal employee who stops, or attempts to stop, unlawful or unconstitutional actions by Elon Musk against Federal agencies, and for other purposes.
That’s it, that’s the entire bill.
It’s not going to pass, but god, just that fact alone sends such a powerful message, especially to the constituents of the Reps who won’t support it.
I love how simple the vast majority of these bills are. No Rep can say this is too complicated or has any sort of hidden agenda
Rep Becca Balint (VT)
How is this Doing the Work, you might ask. Well, we can’t do the work if we burn out. We all need a reminder to rest and relax and have moments where we aren’t thinking about the state of the world. And, given how everyone posts on social media, I don’t think many of us are getting that reminder too frequently.
Not to mention, it’s a level of authenticity and transparency that weren’t not always getting from our Reps. So this made me really happy to see.
Sen Chris Murphy (CT)
He held a town hall in person today that was full to the brim, so he went onto Blue Sky to share some of the things that he said in person.
I already knew that Senators and members of congress are putting in the work to get Republicans to see the light, but I suspect many didn’t know that, so I love how he chose to lay it out here so clearly. And I’m glad he mentioned the other things he’s doing as well.
I love how many ideas he gives for what his constituents, and everyone reading the posts can do.
House Ways and Means Committee Dems
On Thursday, they held a press conference all about Musk and his access to sensitive information. What stood out the most was when Rep Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) said the words:
If you open the door for that breach, and you open the door for criminals to get involved, does that rise to the level of an impeachable offense for Secretary Bessent?
I know a lot of people have been wondering about why they haven’t heard about an impeachment inquiry for the Sec, well, now you have your answer. They are doing their due diligence before introducing articles of impeachment. But I have no doubt it is coming.
You know what? People shit on the DNC the same way they shit on the Dems in the US House and Senate, so I am going to include their contributions to the fight in this series when I see them.
Malcolm Kenyatta (DNC Vice Chair)
This is not business as usual. I’ve never heard anyone from the DNC talk about state legislative races, or school board elections, but, they are now. This is probably the most important video I’ve seen all week. He explains exactly how we can make the biggest difference and why community activism matters so much. I already loved Malcolm Kenyatta watching his work in PA, but, my god, we are so lucky to have him in a national position.
Rep Paul Tonko (NY-20)
I say it every day, we have more power than our Dem electeds do right now, but, Rep Tonko found something new he can do that I haven’t seen from any other Reps. He created a federal worker whistleblower tip line. You can learn more about it here. When you call your elected this coming week, mention this idea, the more electeds do this, the better off we are.
So those are today’s stories. Even on a Saturday, work is still being done to protect and fight for us. Never let anyone tell you differently.
