I’m so sorry this is going up so late. Threads glitched out on me and deleted about an hour of work from my summary on the National Update call, which you can read in full below. But I’m here now! and so are your fighters! Including these two 👇🏻
First off, today every Democrat is making noise about this fucking ridiculous group chat. Make sure to amplify their posts on this subject. Because of its virality, there’s a chance anyone of their posts could get out of the political sphere and make a large larger impact.
Now onto other work happening today
Repping the Rep: Mark DeSaulnier (CA-10)
Along with Reps Bobby Scott (VA-03) and Greg Casar (TX-35) wrote a letter to Marvin Kaplan, the Chair of the National Labor Relations Board, demanding answers as to why Gwynne Wilcox was fired.
I think a lot of people are under the impression that once something is righted, the Dems forget about it and move on, but she was reinstated two weeks ago and the Education and Workforce Committee Dem leadership are still demanding answers.
If I wasn’t doing this Repping the Rep segment, I would have never seen that this happened at all, neither Casar nor Scott has posted it. Just another reminder of how important it is to follow all Dems and lift up their voices, cause, they ARE doing the work.
Minority Leader, Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08)
has today’s Democratic Daily Download. It’s all about the dismantling Department of Education and how this is a red line for House Democrats. Just today, two lawsuits have already been filed just today, with many more to come.
Also, as far as the series goes, it looks like it’s five days a week, instead of seven. I was a little worried when there wasn’t a new episode over the weekend that they forgot, but it looks like they just aren’t doing it over the weekend.
And, this episode was on IG and Blue Sky! We still need them to post on Threads, but I’m so happy to see them consistently posting it on more than just YouTube.
Sen Richard Blumenthal (CT)
Has announced a “shadow hearing” officially known as a “round table” because the minority party can’t legally call a real hearing for Wed April 2.
There have been several of these since DT took office, but this is the first one I’ve heard about ahead of time. This one is about the firings and funding freezes related to the VA. Blumenthal said in his press release:
Congress has an urgent oversight role in this moment of crisis for veterans. Now more than ever, we need to sound the alarm and hear directly from the veterans and VA employees impacted by Musk-Trump’s heartless and heartbreaking cuts, freezes, and firings. That’s why I will be standing up a series of shadow hearings with my fellow Democratic Committee members to ensure we are highlighting the human, real-life impacts and harm caused by this Administration’s malign directives. We have a responsibility to bring to light the impact of Musk-Trump’s disastrous and disgraceful cuts. Hearing from veterans and impacted stakeholders firsthand is the first step toward holding this Administration accountable for their reckless and lawless directives.
I suspect the hearing will the livestreamed or at least posted on his YouTube, so be on the look out for that next week.
Rep Eugene Vindman (VA-07)
Posted an absolutely scathing response to the group chat. Vindman himself was involved in many of these discussions when he worked for the National Security Council, so, there is no better person to be calling this out. And he’s very clear “anyone who’d does not call for an investigation is complicit”
Rep Joe Neguse (CO-02)
Posted a clip arguing against a bill Republicans are trying to pass which would give the Department of Education more responsibilities, which is almost comical, considering they’re also in the process of dismantling it.
We have to expose their failing arguments as often as possible, and I think Neguse does a fantastic job of that here.
Rep Jamie Raskin (MD-08)
Went on the David Pakman Show yesterday and discussed how we grow the opposition (it’s not just about the elected Dems or the activists, it’s about both) as well as what the judicial recourse is if DT doesn’t obey the law and much more.
It’s only 18 minutes (9, if you watch it in 2x), so take some time and listen to Raskin. I know for myself, anytime I listen to him, I let out a huge sigh of relief. He always has an action plan and makes me feel less useless.
DNC Chair Ken Martin
and Raskin will be joining Florida Dems for their final GOTV national organizing call on Thursday. I know a lot of people have been worried that the vice chairs have been involved but Martin himself has not. I hope this eliviates those fears.
So those are just a small handful of Dems doing the work today. Again, please amplify their posts because influencers and mainstream media aren’t doing it so it’s on all of us collectively.
If you made it to the end of this post comment with 📵 because the entire national security team should have their phones taken away
Our voices are superpower, but only when we use them
📵📵📵! I really appreciate these roundups, they help me refocus every night and get a good-ish night’s sleep so I can get up to try again tomorrow. This is really fuckin important. Thank you!!
